Baseball All-Star game to decide home field advantage in WS

I'd put a link to the NY Times story that I am quoting but geez who has the time?
Despite players' views to the contrary, baseball's club owners acted today on their conviction that linking the outcome of the All-Star Game to home-field advantage in the World Series would rejuvenate the All-Star Game.

The owners voted, 30-0, to implement the linkage beginning with this season's game on July 15 at Comiskey Park in Chicago. If they can persuade the players to approve the plan, the pennant winner whose league wins the All-Star Game will be at home for Games 1, 2, 6 and 7 of the World Series in October.
OK, fair enough. I get that this is being done not because it's a solid idea, but because Fox wants it, but still. Whatever. Good to see.

The whiny little shits that make up the actual baseball players, though? Oh noes! They want no part of it!

We appreciate what they're trying to do, what their objective is," Gene Orza, the union's No. 2 official said by telephone from New York. "We'll talk to more players than we have already about it. It's clear there are a number of players who have questions about it. By the same token, there are a lot of players. We'll begin discussions with them pretty soon."
That's great. Shut the fuck up.

They are holding on to this terrible opinion, because in doing so they can use it as leverage right? So the MLBPA would rather hold a miserable stance to further their own agenda then just admit it when the owners fall completely backwards into a good idea.

I know a guy like that. His name is Bundy. He would rather look like a mindless chimp and hold on to a particular opinion that is in line with his own distorted view of reality then look, y'know, intelligent and reasonable. He once stated that Ed McCaffrey was the best WR that has ever played football. He CONTINUES to state this, even though such a comment should only have been made in jest.

I really don't like baseball, and haven't liked it for quite some time. The only enjoyment I get is in noting how much I hate everyone involved with the game.

Nor should they. If you'd done the tiniest bit of research and/or critical thought on the matter, it would be obvious that this decision is stupid at best, and disastrous at worst, for the simple reason that there are too many dirty little angles that are being exposed here.

The best example I heard was:

Mike Scosia (sp?), under the guise of wanting to win the game for the American League, runs the Texas pitcher out there in the late innings longer than he might have otherwise, because he knows he has a series coming up with Texas next, with said pitcher to lead off the series.

Deciding where the World Series will be played by way of a goddamn EXHIBITION game is ludicrous on the face of it, and gets no less ludicrous the more you look into it.

Robb, as per usual, is completely wrong.

Of course, I didn't mean to re-post the rest of the above post.

My brain was still wracked from the stupidity it'd been forced to read minutes earlier. Many apologies.

Well if the WS home field advantage is being determined then by definition it's no longer an EXHIBITION game, now is it?

You really don't know anything about baseball if you are using an example that depicts a Texas Ranger pitcher somehow finding his way into the All-Star game. If this was about football would your idiotic example include drama and pathos about how a Chicago Bears quarterback does in the Pro Bowl?

Playing the All-Star game for home field advantage instantly turns it from the absolute worst All-Star / Pro-Bowl game in the four major sports to the best. Fans will be less inclined to stupidly vote, year after year, for 39 year old relics like Cal Ripken due to their desire to have the very best team represented, and we'll never see a tie again like last year.
