That flat screen was probably made in USA

A recent advertisement by the Union Pacific railroad mentions how various things, if they get shipped, the railroad is there to handle it. One of the things they mention is "that flat-screen TV from China."

Television manufacturing went overseas back in the 1970s and 1980s because the labor costs were too high. At one point Zenith was the only company left making TVs in the United States.

With the development of flat-screen TV sets, the costs of shipping them make enough of a difference that US manufacturing of TV sets became competitive again. My understanding is that most non-CRT television sets sold in the United States are now manufactured here.
