Short bank joke

Post by Tdarcos »

Back during the 1970s Richard Carpenter got asked if he had a song that could be used in a commercial for Crocker National Bank of California.

He lied and said he did. Within a very short period of time he wrote a song, "We've Only Just Begun," and the bank apparently loved it, they used it in some commercials. The Carpenters re-recorded it and it became a hit song.

Crocker National Bank was also where Scott Adams of Dilbert once worked, although it's said the office environment for his cartoons came from his days at Pacific Bell.

Crocker National Bank doesn't exist any more. It succumbed to the Mergers & Acquisitions fad of the 1980s. After lots of losses the buyer sold it to Wells Fargo. Pacific Bell doesn't exist anymore either, they merged with AT&T.

The Carpenters don't exist anymore either. Karen Carpenter succumbed to the Quaalude fad of the same period.

I'm not afraid, any more."
