The Red Hot Chili Peppers, having released the most miserable, emo-sounding, shoegazing funk album ever, have announced a forthcoming summer tour.

Opening act duties will be split between Queens of the Stone Age (YES!) and Snoop Dogg (interesting...).

I thought Californication was excellent. So excellent that I went out and bought it.

That one about the hippie guy telling us how he would be beautiful around the world sucked, I thought. I think I usually started that CD off with track two.

I don't think I have heard anything off their latest yet.

In completely different news -- what's the RHCP song that is currently playing on the radio? I wish I could remember a single lyric from it, as I would enter it into Google and find it. It has a chorus that I like a lot. I am fairly confident that the song isn't one of the first five on the album, as they have snippets of those songs on CD Now, and none of that seems to match. Argh, I wish I could remember how the song went in a manner that I could state over text. You don't happen to have any idea what I am talking about, do you?

You're thinking of "Can't Stop," track seven on the new album. A good example of the Peppers attempting to sound funky even though they're all old and off smack now (supposedly)(at least Frusciante is, because all he does now is yoga and yogurt).

I mean, I was a bit miffed when I first heard this new album. Making the first single track #1 sent up a little red flag, but then when the second track sounded like Guster, and it was clear that Chad Smith farmed out his drum parts to somebody with no hands for a good portion of the album, my miffitude was replete.

I was about the only person in my known universe who Hadn't Given Up on the Peppers yet, still hoping that their best work was ahead of them and not behind them. But alas, they have lost their fastball. John Frusciante is no longer the mad-scientist child prodigy (20 years old) he was when BSSM was recorded. He went and got hooked on junk, scarred and burned the hell out of his arms, lost his teeth, got dentures (seriously), somehow survived, became all world-weary & shit, started doing yoga and became the driving force behind writing Chili Peppers tunes, and it shows (as opposed to their earlier method of songwriting: jamming). Check out his last solo record, and you can almost hear this album in the making, albeit on a four-track recorder in his living room.

So, the Peppers are destined to go the way of Aerosmith, I fear; They have sobered up and started to suck.

Ah, it is "Can't Stop," thanks. I would say that I am a pretty casual RHCP fan, as I liked (bought) Californication and my favorite song by them is that one that goes "Where I go I just don't know / I might end up somewhere in Mexico." They have switched targets, apparently, from you to me and as anyone who knows what kind of music I like, that cannot possibly be a good thing.

Previous song title having been named the song you mentioned in your last post is "Soul to Squeeze" very good song.

Yeah, that's probably my favorite, too, but I'm also not really a fan of the earlier stuff. I don't really like funky stuff, and even the mellow early stuff pretty much had lyrics that didn't hit it right with me.

I knew instantly what Bugs meant when he said that the Chili Peppers "went Aerosmith." Heh. My question is... was Aerosmith the first band to "go Aersosmith"? It's certainly the first one I remember, but then I am only 24. Did this happen before to any bands?

Anyway, I don't think Aerosmith was the first band to "go Aerosmith," not by far. They're just the most accessible, highly publicized, recent example I can think of at this point. Another good, prior example is probably Jefferson Starship (nee Airplane). From "White Rabbit" to "We Built this Shitty on Rock & Roll"? >RETCH<

But, and the interesting question is: Did Jefferson Crapship actually sober up? Or just make a transition from the LSD craze of the late 60s to the coke-addled 80s?

I too I am not a big Peppers fan, they've got a couple songs I like, but overall, they're just okay.

Jefferson Starship played the Milwaukee County Zoo (my ex-employers) last summer. I think people said it sucked (big surprise).

I usually like what I've heard on the radio. Though I did not dig "The Zephyr Song" if that is indeed what it goes by.
