Just testing, right now. So far all you can do is make accounts -- I haven't configured any message areas, file areas, or anything else for that matter.

telnet to bbs.robohara.com (default port, 23).

All I get is a black screen and a blinking cursor which, when I hit enter, it moves down the page, so obviously I'm supposed to be seeing something, but I don't.

FIX IT.

As a proof of concept I'd say it's a success. It still needs a lot of work though.

When I log in locally I can see the full ANSI graphics (it's a big picture of Mr. Moonpie) but when I telnet in I just see a little strip of the picture.

I see a command line setting to limit the baud rate but so far I can't get it to do anything so ... hm.

I'll make some headway over the weekend for sure.

I've also tried using BBSFox and while the Mr. Moonpie ASCII art doesn't display, the prompts work and I'm able to create and step through the rabbit hole (as they say) except when I try to send the required letter to the sysop for review; the prompt then just hangs after I write and push enter.

Yeah, I think it's trying to send mail via the Internet and I don't have that part configured yet. I did eventually get e-mails from Pinback and Aardvark, although like I said since I haven't turned on Internet mail yet for the system, I'm not sure how that happened.

So I'm posting on your BBS for some odd reason (considering it has fewer users and readers than this one) and its fun using /s to save a message and having to relearn an interface (especially a classic one).

Will like play the DoorMUD a bit more today as well.

If I can get the menus and user accounts and message bases set up, I will install some door games this weekend as well. LORD and Usurper seem to be readily available.

Guess the BBS is down right now, which is disappointing since it has somehow motivated me to begin posting again.

It's back up at the moment but ... there are issues. It's now randomly throwing out NTVDM errors which are also killing my website as well. :/

I may need to switch to a different software package. I'll find a configuration that works eventually.

Bad news, good news.

Bad news, I switched to another software package. Everyone who signed up will have to re-sign up.

Good news, this is definitely the package I will be sticking with, so you shouldn't have to re-sign up again. It's running super fast and I was able to get things up and running in just a few minutes, believe it or not.

I vote we shut down JC BBS in favor of Flack's BBS.

ALL IN FAVOR??????

It isn't hard to imagine that switching over to Flack's BBS would cut our membership in half (plus I'd (we'd) no longer be able to connect to JC via work PCs or alternate devices) and recruiting new members would be a trial... So if you'd like to make Flack's BBS our own little private cubbyhole, sure, otherwise we'd be better off sticking around here.

Oh no, I would totally vote against that. Jolt is ... Jolt!

I'm not thrilled with the BBS being named "The Gas Chamber" ... my forum's already named that too, so that might be confusing. It will be easy for me to keep them separate though. The BBS will be the one with 5 users and the forum is the one with 10. ;)

Also, telnet.exe doesn't display all the graphics properly. I downloading SyncTERM and it does a much better job.

Mr. Moonpie ... back in the saddle again.

I knew there was a reason I kept all my old ANSI files from my BBS 20 years ago.

I also got Pimp Wars installed in the Door Games area. For some reason, after playing it disconnects you from the BBS. I don't think this is by design. I'll work on that.

The more graphics I add, the more I think people will have to use an external program like SyncTERM to connect. telnet.exe, at least the version I'm using on Windows 7, drops most of the graphics.

Hahaha, that sounds exactly like Pimp Wars. It's not by design, but Christ were door games a pain in the ass.

Almost everything I want to get working right now is broken but at least I got Mr. Moonpie to give out random fortune cookie sayings when you log in so that's pretty god damn exciting.
