The STAR LORDS Thread!

Post by pinback »

You want to LORD over the stars! You always have! But you've grown up now, had a few kids, cleaned up more than your share of dog diarrhea off the couch, and you're not sure you have it in you anymore. Maybe you're not the "type" to lord over stars anymore. Maybe that's for the youngsters anymore. The young bucks.

Well, what if the stars looked like THIS:

Image

Yeah! YEAH! You're ready to fucking LORD OVER SOME STARS NOW ain't ya?

Of course you are, which is why I am happy to let you all know about the upcoming SPACE 4X GAME: STAR LORDS!!! I will be "championing" this game here, because I believe it will be the one space 4x game we've always wanted.

It is in early alpha now, but already it is showing signs of being the "chosen one". I mean, Christ! You wanna lord over some stars??

Image

During your 4X-ing, you will of course come across other alien cultures, the exact same way you have since the genre was invented! Look, I am not saying this is going to break any ground here! I am just saying it's going to take you back to when 4X was fun, and look great while doing it! Look! These alien cultures are about to go to war, because, you know, that's what they do!

Image

And unlike many recent space 4X offerings, when they go to war, you don't just get a pretty "combat resolution" screen. You go to FUCKING BATTLE!!! In a TACTICAL BATTLE MAP!!! One... one simple word comes to mind here:

Image

Isn't this what you've always wanted? Since MOO, I mean? Of course it is. And that is why you should PRE-ORDER THE GAME for $20! Like I said, it's in early alpha, some of the features are currently a little sketchy, and the user interface, while functional, how can I say it politely, "kinda blows wombat ass":

Image

But that doesn't matter. That'll get fixed in time.

And now it's YOUR time, to feel young, as when the world was new!

It is YOUR time...

...to be a STAR LORD.

Am I a hero? I really can't say. But, yes.

Didn't we already go through this with Endless Space?

You gushed over that game when it was in beta and when I tried to rekindle interest, you went "meh." Will Pinback ever enjoy an x4 game enough to play it after it goes gold?

Will he?

Star Lords could be my first 4x game! (Civ2 isn't a 4x game, right?) How much is it gonna cost me to pre order? Is there an alpha I can play? I wanna lord over stars!

Do the things around the alien worlds show how much they hate you? Is that what those bubbles are? I love it! Ha! Ha ha!

Civ2 is the quintessential 4x game.
How much is it gonna cost me to pre order?
$20!
Is there an alpha I can play?
Yes, for your $20 preorder, you get the current alpha, along with any updates!
Do the things around the alien worlds show how much they hate you? Is that what those bubbles are? I love it! Ha! Ha ha!
Okay, easy.
Didn't we already go through this with Endless Space?
Look, Stanky, I want you to notice that you came on here last night, dropped two stinkbombs of negative-nelly posts and then took off. Don't do that again. It's not cool, and most importantly, it's not... retro.

ALL OF THESE GAMES ARE SINGLE PLAYER.

Nobody would want to play 4x with another person unless it was by email.

Kerberos announces SOTS2 "all clear"! Well! You can understand if maybe it would have been better if they had a third party, namely, anyone in the entire universe give the "all clear" instead of them?

"Hitler announces Poland ghettos 'all clear'!"

I offered Pinback a copy of the the game delivered to his doorstep (with two day shipping no less) via Amazon. He politely refused, instead opting to wait for the game to hit a sale price on steam (currently it sits at $30. Amazon sells the physical copy for $12).

Finding it monumentally hilarious that someone would refuse a new, boxed copy of a game because it can't be tied to an online service. What a reversal from a few years ago...

Well there's a reason Amazon sells the physical copy for 1/3 the price of the online version, because even the goddamn BOX IT COMES IN needs eighteen patches before it opens properly.

Alright, never mind. Forget all this SOTS2 stuff, I worked it out.

Let's get back to talking about... what was it? STAR LORDS!! Yes!

Alpha 2 should have been out by now but they say they're "having trouble uploading it". For two weeks. This certainly does not lower my confidence in the company's ability to put out a quality product! Uploading, man... not an exact science!

(PS: I own SOTS2 now, if anyone wants to play it.)
