THE
BODY ART

About a decade ago my best friend suggested that we get matching tattoos. I know, that sounds about as gay as scratching your tonsils with someone's cock. But you know what? It also sounded cool.

So ten years later he asked if I still wanted to go through with it. I was still good to go if I could work up the design.

So after some sketching I came up with this design, inspired a little from Banksy only with a lot less talent.

Image

It looks more like some kind of corporate logo than a decent work of art, but you get the idea. I stuck it on my Facebook profile but that's about as far as I wanted to go with it.
My friend said to let the tattoo artist play around with it and see what he could come up with. Leaving to the professionals sounded good to me so that's what we did.

I like it, I like it! I'm glad you let the artist play around with it a bit because the first one looks... familiar.

Someone said it looked like Zero from Nightmare Before Christmas.

I concur: the original design looked like a uterus.

Especially like the fact your friend tactfully said "let the tattoo artist play with it" without actually commenting on where his imagination took the design.

I rather like the touch of the Aardvark's nose-ring (snout-ring?) as the 'o' in 'knows'.

Also, since nobody else has asked, and a cursory googling hasn't unearthed any pop-culture references that would shed light on the inscription, I'll be the clueless dope to ask:

Who is Olly? And what is it, specifically, that he knows?

Yes. This really could use some more story.

It was a drawing that at it's worst looks like a woman's reproductive organs and at best looks like a lobster with three claws. How did it turn into that?? haha

Re: what Olly knows: It's one of those mysterious , mystical, phrases that can have many many meanings and is good for conversation starting and the telling of tall tales.

On the whole I am glad that Newt was able to transform my rough doodle into something leg worthy for all to enjoy.

Well, either one of those designs would have generated an amazing story.

The tat looks great, Vark. You thinkin' of adding another?

Nope. One and done.
Of course that's what a lot of first timers say and then go on to become The Illustrated Man.

I can't think of anything else that's important enough in my life to permanently affix to my bod.

Thanks for the explanatory link.

Almost everyone I know (in my age group or younger) has tattoos. That's tattoos plural; I can't think of anybody I know who stopped at one. So if you can resist the temptation and stay, as you put it, "one and done", then props to you, sir.

I myself am ink-deficient. My go-to line when people inquire why I don't have any "body art" is that I want to fund my retirement by working in a sideshow as the Amazing Tattooless Man, because at current rates of tattooing expansion I'll be the only exception in a couple decades. A lone and unadorned freak, my flesh eerily... flesh-colored wherever it's exposed.

Also, I don't need any more "distinguishing marks" in my Permanent Record file. It'd be hard enough just to fake the dental records if I needed to start a new life in Buenos Aires or something.

I'd get a tattoo if I wasn't deathly afraid of doing so.

And also very hairy.

They shave you first so that's not a problem. The needles kinda hurt though.

But it's just going to grow back. Then trying to find my tattoo would be like trying to find a vagina in the 70s.

Has anyone pointed out that the tattoo itself is actually well done with a very endearing "secret society" vibe to it? No? Maybe? I like the tattoo!
