X-Com!

Two new X-Com games within a year and absolutely no discussion on Jolt Country? I'll kick it off then.

X-Com: Enemy Unknown - played for a grand total of twenty or so hours before the game decided it would crash whenever it loaded a commonly used enemy animation!

The Bureau: XCOM Declassified - just bought it, but the first day I'll have time to play it is this Sunday!

Anyone else?

And next month Enemy Within comes out. An extended version of Unknown.

I thought Unknown was cool. Not as cool everybody made it out to be, but cool. Cool enough that I want to play it again one day.

The Bureau seems like a wait until it's 10 dollars type game.

HI! OLD GAMES DUDE HERE!

It was inferior to the original X-COM.

Try to enjoy it anyway! Ha ha ha!

The Bureau is already for sale on Gamefly for 17.99.

2 months after release.

Something tells me that game is not a hit?

I'm having mixed reactions to it, mainly because its engine runs at maybe 20 FPS on my computer and it doesn't look any better than Bioshock Infinite (which ran fine). Okay! There is more action on the screen, but otherwise its kinda the same aesthetic.

Anyway, each generation of video games needs its filler that will be pirated without any fanfare in five years: The Bureau fits the bill.

Installing X-Com: Enemy Within as I type this - guess I'll see if I like it.

The Bureau just hit 8 dollars on Gamefly. I am the proud new owner of The Bureau.

I'm finishing up the story element of X-Com after maxing out research, upgrades, technology, weapons, etc, etc. and the game is absolutely boring at this point.

My major issue is that I have enough meld, resources, etc. to do whatever I want and yet I can't ignore now regular Council and randomly generated missions, when the main storyline beckons.

Breaking that down my problems are:

1. The game is too easy if you have even a smidgen of how to play it (rush satellites, focus on research and ignoring the first two EXALT missions).

2. Missions themselves become repetitive: I've killed over a thousand aliens at this point and the game is about 85% done (I think).

3. A few of the game mechanics feel as if they are designed to screw over the player: there isn't a direct way to reduce panic in nations that are about to leave X-Com. Okay, EXALT missions address this, but still...

Having fun, but after a big push to finish the game I'm now taking it in small doses.

That is not the right opinion, by the way.

Are we at the point where anything new that is in the same vein, but different is somehow lesser than the old?

All I can tell you, is that I do not want to be that guy.

No, we're at the point where idiot children are re-making classic games without the slightest bit of understanding as to what made the original games worth knowing about 20 years later though.

For example.

You can not put panic in an X-COM game when you've limited the squads to four people.

The new XCOM game is a pointless waste of time. Ben never even played the original. No wonder he liked XCOM. It's easy to like the new XCOM when you've never played the original because they ripped off a lot of stuff from the original. THey also just fucked it up badly. Terrible game, the new one.

I don't think this is your actual opinion. I think you want it to be your opinion so you can write posts such as the above.
