SC2 was the biggest thing in eSports in 2011. They were in talks to get it on ESPN (or like, ESPN 3 or Deportes or Retardes or something).
I don't know why everyone at Blizzard hasn't been fired for the botch job they did on keeping it alive and growing.
Maybe it's not their fault. It's all about League of Legends now. LoL is "easier" to get into (not the least of which reason is it's free). But you're not trying to micro and macro with 300 APM against a Korean, you're just controlling one guy, and your two main goals are 1) fulfill your chosen role in the game, and 2) if anything bad happens, blame your teammates.
See? Easy.
SC2 required fanatical dedication and a will of steel.
But it also paid $10,000 to its tournament winners instead of $1,000,000.
They could have done so much.
But they didn't, because they were making card games and their own dumbed down version of LoL.
Is Legacy of the Void even going to come out now? I suppose they've made enough progress where the die-hards and the single player devotees will make them their money.

And that's sad, because going to an actual bar in downtown Seattle PACKED with fucking nerds, with SC2 on every flatscreen and people yelling and jumping up and down and generally having the time of their lives, well, that was as special a moment a gamer could ever hope to have.

I suppose we could tweak it for the JC crowd. "something else" is a crime punishable by death. But that's currently the greatest line in computer gaming today, and it's still only in beta.
