Frozen Cortex is super incredibly fun.

It is simultaneous-turn-based 5-on-5 football with robots.

The rules are interesting. You can pass or run, but if you run, you can't pass anymore. The playing field is littered randomly with obstacles which block running lanes, passing lanes, or both. Scoring a touchdown is 7 points. Running the ball over a scoring square in the middle of the field is 2 points.

It is entirely deterministic. There is no RNG other than the layout generation. Passes are always caught (if thrown to a player). Blocks/interceptions are 100% predictable. If there were no obstacles on the field, it would primarily be a guessing game. But the obstacles, in a sense, turn each field into something of a puzzle hybrid. Where can I block the most running lanes, and have the best shot at intercepting a pass? Or if I have the ball, where is he least likely to expect me to throw/run?

Each game lasts a maximum of about 15 minutes, meaning people with jobs can play it.

Also, the multiplayer makes "PBEM" games easy, as you get notified whenever it's your turn, so you can have a few games going and just run a play or two on your coffee break.

It's football. With robots. And tactics. And wacky play-by-play guys (who thankfully are all in text). And betting. (You can even bet against yourself, to earn the "Match Fixing" achievement.) And team management, if you want.

It's so fun you won't believe it.
