Some people have left.

It's clear that Flack and Pinback are never returning. In a very real way, this is the closest this place has ever come to me thinking ... fuck it. There's not really many people left.

I haven't had to try on JC BBS for years. That is the greatest gift Ben and Rob could have given us. They created content all the time. Beautiful content that really made it a pleasure to hang out here.

Now, though, well. On one hand it clearly falls to me to keep this place going. On the other hand, I've got piles of boxes seven feet tall in the new/doom house that I need to unbox.

Perhaps it really has run its course.

I think we're alone now.
There doesn't seem to be anyone around.

It's the network effect, as more people become part of something it increases its value. The more people who have phones, the more useful having a phone becomes.

On a smaller scale it applies to social groups. People don't really go to friends houses to drink beer and scream at the ball game, they really go so they can do these things with friends.

It can also work in bad ways. My sister is a big follower of serial killers, and points out when you get one of these "kill teams," the dynamics of the group - even when its only 2 people - can change the personalities of the members, allowing them to do things they might not have done as individuals.

Any idea why Pinhead and Flack left? What soured them?

I mean, seriously everyone who's been here - who represent the core membership of this place - have been here for years and are already fully aware of everyone else's quirks and idiosyncrasies, so nothing anyone here could do should surprise them.

On the other hand, maybe it stopped being fun. That's what caused me to stop hanging around on the Usenet Newsgroup alt.seduction.fast after something like 5 years, it stopped being fun and fighting with Ray Gordon and his kookscreeds of insanity stopped being an exercise in humor and became a tedious exercise in monotony.

Did anyone say anything as to why?

You've still got me, pal. Perhaps it's time to mount a membership drive.

Perhaps it's time to drive a mounted member.

Or don't drive when mounted.

Or clone the drive and mount it virtually.

With promises of a free buffet and an open bar you could lure us back!

I think you could entice Elvis back from the grave with that.

They'll be back
