I bought a PS4. I am amazed that:

1) Sony was greasy enough to demand money for on-line play. ("$5 a month!!" they cry. Then just give it to your customers, you pieces of shit.)

2) The rest of the idiots happily forked over money for it.

And then, of course, Sony tied as much shit to their extortion scheme as possible.

Why are we singling Sony out for this BS? Xbox Live Gold has required a subscription (to the tune of $60 a year until earlier this, now $40) since the service went live, with Xbox Live Silver or Free or whatever being pretty much useless.

Don't we have enough hate for everyone? And enough love to appreciate that Sony at least has added in stuff such as free games of the week or something.

Yeah, former poster that you guys drove off called lethargic mentioned that the new Resident Evil 7 demo is on the PS4, and I went to grab the (free) "demo" and Sony tied their dumb on-line network to it.

Which I was gonna join for a bit to do GTA5 with co-workers. But still.

Console makers have generally gone with the marketing method first developed y King Camp Gillette around the turn of the Twentieth Century. Give the razors away or sell them below cost and make it up on the blades.

Most game consoles are sold below cost in order to make it up on the games and on-line services. Printing is the same way, which is why a $27 printer is cheap enough to buy several and give them away because the replacement cartridges cost more than the ink included with the printer.

So, I was gonna play GTA5 online with some friends. Mind you, I bought this shitty game for my 360 already, and there has never been a single GTA mission ever worth doing twice.

Has there ever been a worse developer of video games than Rockstar? Ever? No, I think they are the absolute fucking worst.

Are you aware that a new PS4 model is coming out, which more powerful CPU+GPU? It plays all current games, and it will play new games better than the old PS4.

It's called "PS4 Neo." Coming this year.

People single out Sony because their online service used to be free, and one of their selling points was, "our online service is free while Microsoft's isn't."

A guy on Caltrops told me that a new version was coming, but I wasn't gonna let that affect me.

I was working at a video game store when the whole Dreamcast / PS2 thing happened. Not sure if they had Electronics Boutiques in Greece but I am sure they had similar dumps, ha ha. (When I was a kid, there was a software store called Babbage's that was extremely exciting for me to go to. I wasn't reading any gaming magazines or anything, so I got news about new PC releases when my folks had us walk by Babbage's in the mall. When I started doing poorly in community college and had to take a job, I thought I'd cash in on the nostalgia and work for an equivalent company, but EB was a dump.)

Anyway, alllllllll the media and advice (except for our store!) was telling people to wait on the Dreamcast because the PS2 was gonna be so much much much better. I couldn't believe that gaming magazines were doing this, but they were. "Wait for the PS2, no need to get a Dreamcast" they said, effectively. Why gaming magazines wouldn't want to grow the pie is another reason why they've always been staffed with a lot of incapable people, I guess.

Anyway, I thought back then that waiting was dumb. Gamers aren't using the time they saved not getting a Dreamcast and waiting for a PS2 to do push-ups. You know what I mean? Furthermore, there are no compelling reasons to get a PS4 if you aren't gonna play Uncharted or The Last of Us, so zero reasons times a more powerful revision to the console still equals zero for me. I can play the extensive PS4 backlog of exclusives -- which for me, is zero games -- just as easy now as then.

That's just my opinion.

Okay, the hockey game on the PS4 is nice.

Well, I shouldn't have said that the game is shitty as I bought it twice, and obviously I would not buy it twice if I didn't like it. That said, why on earth do they force players to go through the prologue before hopping on multiplayer? Even a cheat code that had to be found through the Internet and input would have been OK.

I haven't played any online missions yet but I do like the character creator. I've done that bit so far.

This is exciting!!

This is different though. The PS2 was not a Dreamcast. The PS4 Neo is a PS4. It's just like a PS4, but runs at higher FPS and higher resolutions. Both system will run exactly the same games: PS4 games. But the Neo will run them better.

I got the Utah non-resident, but Maryland doesn't allow any kind of public carry except with its own permit and it has some stiff requirements. (It's basically "maybe issue if you take additional training courses, are a Maryland resident, and have a good reason in the opinion of the State Police" or "no-issue for non-residents,") I got the Utah permit because the training (plus the extra for MD) qualifies for the HQL permit, which is not a carry permit, but is a permit to allow you to buy, rent or receive a firearm.

I'm figuring with the weakness of my hands, if I want to go back to practicing shooting, a shotgun or rifle is out and any firearm probably has to be something with very little recoil and a weak trigger pull.

I went by a gun store to check out what I might decide to buy if I go back to practicing again. I pointed out that under the laws here, legally I can concealed carry in South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia and Ohio, but the only place outside in Maryland where I can carry, open or concealed, is my front lawn.

I don't know that I'll ever buy another "modern" console. The last one I bought was the original Wii. I just don't play them like I used to so can't justify buying them. Plus, I prefer old consoles exactly because of the BS like "play the tutorial before you can play the game". I don't have time for that shit and it's just not cool or fun.

However..

#1 I like GTA V, but I've only played the PC version. I've also not touched it much since Fallout 4 came out.

#2. I do really want to check out this new Resident Evil game from what I've heard about it. Hope there's a PC version one day..

Regarding NHL 16...

So, I came into a game having not won yet. 0-5. I'm playing the Montreal Canadians.

It's tied 2-2 and I make a great pass to score and go up 3-2. The game CALLS OFF the goal. They said I had a guy in the crease. Montreal turns around and scores to make it 3-2 them.

They go up 4-2 and then with :30 left I score. 4-3, and I have a chance! On the enusing faceoff they call a penalty on me, which has never been done by a ref in the 200 years hockey has been played in such a situation.

Even the goddamn PS4 hockey game is anti-Sabres.

I am now 1-10-2. This would imply that I won a game! I did not, though. I got frustrated down 2-0 in the first period in one game and had the computer sim the rest, and we won.

I think NHL 16 might be an absolutely amazing game. I'm not sure. I've never gone this long without winning a stupid sports game. I thought I would hate the advanced controls but they are fine. I also had to take the computer's skill on faceoffs down a bunch.

The problem is that the game is a huge timsink, especially for one I am not winning.

PS Plus is one of the best things in the world to pay for. Paying for Xbox Live was a grit your teeth and just do it because you HAD to. Paying for PS Plus is a privilege because it's nothing but value. I don't give a turkey about multiplayer. I pretty much never use it. But I gets hundreds of dollars of games a year for paying 30-40 a year. 72 games a year for less than 50? Only a weirdo would complain about that. WEIRDO.

I did try GTA Online though. It sucks pecker juice. That being the thing that convinced you of buying a PS4 freaks me out. Buy that thing for Until Dawn or something.
