Jolt Country

Has anyone heard of this? This was my second barn sale. We waited an hour and a half just to get in this time. The first one was made bearable by repeat visits to the beer tent. Naked Dove Windblown Amber. This year they only served major brands in cans. Ho hum. At least it was cold.

Oh yeah, there's all this household stuff for sale too. We bought a broom and three small lampshades.

Nope, first I have heard of it...

Is this a national thing?

GUYS, ARE WE GOING TO NATIONALS?

Last year a bunch of antique/vintage shops downtown put on a Vintage Sale in a nearby field. There were probably 30 vendors of all sorts -- people selling hand painted signs, metal artwork, custom glass work, sculptures, just all kinds of cool stuff.

The kids were considering making some stuff and selling it at this year's sale, Vintage Sale 2.0. This year it's $2 to get in (to a field), and booths doubled from $50 to $100. No off-she-shelf things can be sold (all the vintage collectors are out), only hand made crafts. This year they're having food trucks, but only official ones, so nobody can sell food or drinks, and they're having a DJ, too. There were a few other rules posted online as well, all that made me say, "good luck with that."

So next year maybe we will drive to New York and attend a barn sale instead.

Why not just hit up lilac festival in Rochester? Sounds like it has all of the elements described and then some.

The regular prices are really high. The barn sale is fifty percent off everything and then more if you find the right deal.
People come in from all over the country to attend this thing. they have an RV lot and a tent area so people can camp out and get in line really early. It's like going to a crazy rural Disneyland with no A/C or rides. People come out of there with shopping carts full of stuff

I am very curious if you can tell us what the draw of this stuff is - is it the rarity? The name? The fact that it looks like a 90 year olds poorly painted wood dinner ware set?

This all looks like shit to me.

In hindsight, to balance out the negatively of my previous statement, I am finding a lot of enjoyment in your "Cheese Doodles" series!

While the link that was provided did look like a mountain of shit to me, I should have kept that remark to myself as it contributed nothing positive to this discussion. I will try to keep things more on topic in the future.

It's no use going back to yesterday, because you were a different person then.

The stuff is OK. It's not great or anything. It's a designer thing. The stuff is all made in China so it's not really great quality but it's ok to look at. Just something different than Martha Stewart or Oscar De La Renta.

The thing that got me was the hype all these housefraus had going to this sale.

Why would you need to go to a second barn sale? Your bid wasn't high enough for the first barn? Or can you actually use a second barn? Do they ship the barn on a flatbed truck or do they disassemble it first? How big is your property that you feel the need to buy a barn? Was it that you wanted a spare or was the whole point you don't have one yet and wanted to buy a used barn to save money?

As the late, great George Carlin would say, why would you park on a driveway and drive on a parkway? If you go to a car sale, they sell cars, at white sales, they sell white goods (like sheets) so isn't it reasonable to presume a barn sale is where they sell barns? Don't they sell tractors at places where they have signs that say "tractor sale"?

Now, seriously, is a barn sale like a garage sale or yard sale (single seller) selling in a barn, or is it more like a swap meet (multiple sellers)? Or can it be both? Where I live you're unlikely to fiind any area that rural enough to have barns unless you go out I-270 past Frederick, MD towards WV and the PA Turnpike, call it a hundred miles.
