What game(s) did you get?
Good question! This assumes that the PS3 that I was logged into was able to check the status of how much credit I had when I went to pay. Of course it does that, right?
Absolutely fucking
not.
Because I know how computers work, I logged out of the Playstation store on the PS3 and went back in. I am letting go of the fact that you can't just exit, you have to back your way out of every screen before the payment screen INCLUDING the deletion of every single character you entered to find a game. I am not making that up. Luckily, I picked a game with a 4 letter title.
This is what it looks like trying to back out of the store. What kind of UI is this?
I went back in and this time it saw the funds. Went to pay and....
This part I expected. It wanted me to enter information about a "Venmo Credit Card." I would like to remind everyone that Venmo does not work that way. I remembered that I had to delete any cards in my account, so I did that on the Playstation web site (not the PS3, not the Playstation app, mind you) and then exited the Playstation store on the PS3, went back in and was finally able to purchase "Rain", which my research indicated was a Playstation 3 exclusive and a quirky little adventure game.
Gabe Newell said that piracy was really a service problem. He could have been talking about the Playstation 3 in 2025. It took me at least an hour to buy a game on it, and yes, I am thankful you can do it at all. I have read that Sony didn't want to spend the money to fix the PS3 store. I said this elsewhere, but I know 10 brilliant people, at least, looking for work and all of whom have experience in the field of payments. This could be fixed if they wanted it to be fixed. I can accept that they may never make enough money for Playstation 3s to hire a team, but also, it's Sony, and this experience was enough to have me pivot to looking at modding the console - hopefully a softmod, but whatever - and getting all the games from here.
Rain gave me Ico vibes.
