Wellllllll, John has tried previously to be wild and crazy with a couple advertising campaigns and the audience at the time lost their minds.
I also never, ever understood what the problem was back then. You can't take an advertisement like, "John Romero's About To Make You His Bitch" seriously. It doesn't mean anything. It's silly. It's goofy! I never met someone actually offended by it. It's more like you'd read that people got all bothered by it and people just ran with it. Even with Daikatana - if someone was a shareholder, sure, I could see how they would be cross, but there wasn't a single person that bought Daikatana that didn't know what they were in for. I've got a copy on CD downstairs. I bought it a year or two after it came out and it was fine.
So I dunno. I'm sort of off crowdfunding because 21 out of 36 Kickstarter campaigns that I've backed over six years haven't finished. Most haven't come anywhere close and I'd say half of those projects are effectively abandoned. I get tired of yelling at people over the Internet. I don't want to feel that John Romero let me down, I think he's pretty damn cool. I'd rather pay $60 for his game when it's released than get in at 29 at the moment. Maybe that'll change.
