Is the new remake any good? Does it get the Jizaboz seal of approval?

Well first off friend.. it is 7 not 4.

But yes, if you have played original as I have this game is really cool to get into. The new combat system is weird but you can switch to basic if you can’t handle it. I gave the voice acting a chance in English and it totally works. No need for Japanese audio with subs here unlike Persona 5. I really enjoy Barret’s voice!

The bad so far: once you get to a point in town where you can do side quests.. it can be frustrating just figuring out how to advance things. However, the old games had this same sort of thing going on where if you didn’t talk to someone or whatever you can’t leave the area.

My rating: worth it so far 7 hours in and 49.99 spent

How does Materia work? And for someone who played through the original, but never actually finished it (the [REDACTED] portion of the story felt cliche and a use of a cheap scifi trope) is it worth rediscovering it? Is there beauty and majesty to find in this much hyped remake?

Materia works much the same way. One thing that is kind of neat is you can see the different colors of Materia in your sword while walking around. So far the only summon I have is Ifrit but I will be returning to this game after work today.

That first big boss fight, where the tentacle robot has the shield - it killed me :(

Cloud's like "attack it from the rear!" And then I did that and no real damage happened.

Dude play it like the original. Use the asses skill and then alternate between hitting, magic, and your special abilities. You can do it! I just started the stuff with the flower chick (when you actually do stuff with her after the initial intro early on) tonight before I tapped out.

Chapter 14 has a lot going on. I took a bit of a break there for a while, but still really enjoying the game and almost done with this chapter.

Yeah, I hate that I won't see the Golden Saucer yet with this chunk of the remake.

A couple of weeks ago I made it to the final chapter of this. Should be beaten soon..
