Well, the thing is, every time I want to type Shift-I and my thumb is on the control key by mistake, this worthless feature is activated. Or I grab the keyboard and bump the F12 key. Or overshoot the Backspace key. I have no option but to "bend over and take it," because I can neither disable this or change the keybinding.

Jesus, even Windows allows you to change the default function of the "power" and "sleep" keys.

I'm okay with them leaving it as it is, even though ol' sausage-fingers over there is unable to mash the right keys all the time.

Firefox has a feature I do not need, do not want, never use, and is only distracting: debug page. This is "available" by pressing F12 or Control I. You also can neither disable this nor change the keybindings. I think the number of people who need this feature is so low, changing the key sequence to Control-F12 or ALT-F12 would not be a hardship and would maybe affect a few hundred people. Or at least allow me to disable or move it.

Here's a workaround that allows you to minimize the development tools:

01. In the address bar, type about:config
02. In the config search bar, type devtools.toolbox
03. Look for devtools.toolbox.footer.height
04. Click on the pencil icon next to that entry and change the value to 0

Firefox has "History" under the "Library" menu area. I wish I knew why people that worked on browsers were so goddamn dumb.

To get the "latest firmware" for the Xbox controller I am trying to use on my computer, I have to:

1) Go to a website that has a Microsoft store link
2) Click on it
3) Log in
4) Give a PIN (which I set before and has fucking letters in it)
5) Click on "Get" again
6) Click on "Install"
7) Wait for it to download 54 MB of stuff for Xbox firmware
Note: you cannot copy text that is in the "Microsoft Store", which doesn't affect anything, but when given a choice to do stuff they always pick the wrong one
8) Click "Launch"

All that to download and install a file. People got paid for the above.

(And then there is no way for me to update the firmware, like the Axis Football guy said there would be. And I am only doing this because they broke Steam gamepad support. What a mess!)

Firmware update was just two steps: Download the (very small) firmware updater and run it (don't even need to install it first).

NICE! Looks great. I should also state that the issue I was having was with an indie dev - not sure how on earth two buttons on a gamepad stopped working (which is what the issue is) but I get that they are not EA and trying to make ends meet and all that.

Great job Google Android developers with your latest update! You added something completelu unnecessary that adds an additional click to logging into JC. Used to be i could just touch either the userid or password box and my creds would appear and i could touch login. Now it raises a Google popup i have to click then when it goes away i can hit login. Why do they work to make things harder?

So they're too unimaginative to make it better not worse. Like, how about make it so when I go to JoltCountry, I don't even have to click into the credentials boxes but "Casual Observer" and "xxxxx" just show up then I click Login. That would have been a step in the right direction.

This is why you should use Firefox. It saves the cookies so I never have to login again unless I'm using a new device, I logout, or the login cookie expires. Typically it's maybe once every 4-6 months.

Huh, I didn't even know there was firefox for android, it's been a decade since I used fox. You're missing the point, paul, this thread is for complaining about stupid shit developers do, not genuinely ask for advice but thanks.

I'm going to have to side with Paul here: Why the fuck would you ever use Google garbage considering we have a MANY-pages thread detailing every stupid thing they break? This is really like asking "Why did my Ford Pinto Explode? I bought an AUTOMOBILE!"

Paul, ALL browsers save your cookies and passwords unless you tell them not to, that's not what I complained about so you didn't read well (understood due to your difficulty seeing).

However, since Happyness agrees with you about that, I installed Android Firefox to see what all wonderful it is . . . and NO FUCKING WAY, ever. I really only have two reasons why I won't use mobile Firefox.

One: This is actually their dumpster fire idea of a home page? I don't want any of this stuff. Google gives me a search box and videos that it knows I'm interested in because I've searched for similar shit, done. This home page would make me want to throw my phone and I don't have time to search with.



Second: Fatal flaw: Mozilla uses the Google Search Engine so why isn't it natively able to show me content based on my search history without me logging into their browser? Ok, let's try. The reason the home page looks like that is I have to sign up to get additional features and they're desperate to sell me Firefox Lockwise, Monitor, Send, in addition to the browser. I didn't come for any of this shit. I already have a platform of apps that I'm stuck using, some because they're free or almost free, others because my jobs found them cheaper than exchange. Obviously Google has locked Firefox out of Android in some ways like it and Apple do to everyone. I'll try Ffox on Windows but my job uses Gsuite so we'll see, I bet Google has tried to do it there like they did to Safari in some ways.

So, I apologize for you having to log in, by the way - I am not quite sure why your phone is having you click anything to logon. Mine is saving the username and password so I don't have to do that.

I didn't want to get into it because it would be this huge thing but I saw in the logs last month that there have been multiple instances of randos on the internet finding some 15 year old threads here and referencing it in a "look at these savages" way. I don't want to get rid of all the data on the site or anything. But I also don't want stuff taken out of context. So for a while I want to see how it goes where people have to at least register to get their panties in a wad about things elsewhere.

I use Firefox, hitting the JC Bbs bookmark brings me right to the forum, already logged in. Never seen the additional screen you see.
