Re: Random thoughts
I wonder about the guest count. I suspect from time to time threads get posted here from elsewhere but I dunno.

Re: Random thoughts

Ive been reading the newspapers from the 1950s, because I cant stand the current news but my brain needs teh content. Every so often I come across stuff that is rather bizzare, like this car ad for the Chysler Simca, that has the engine up front, where it belongs!

"Distortion-free windshield" was once a plus and now car companies have you playing Phoenix in altered reality the front window.

Re: Random thoughts
Back in these days it was a thing. Dudes didn't prefer rail thin chicks, but people were still pulling themselves out of the great depression. People were used to starving so we had things like this and advertising candy bars as meal substitutes.

My random thought of the day: Cutting and pasting Wikipedia articles is not acceptable behavior on this BBS.

You once asked how you could get civility and politeness from other people. Here's a way: You'd try not insulting them if you feel they made a mistake.
If you can't go that far, start by not double insulting people over a single item.
And yes, being condescending is insulting. Only prisoners walking doswnstairs are allowed to be a condescending.

Re: Random thoughts
Im thinking of starting an old newspaper thread where I post old ads and odd news frpm the 40s, 50s and 60s
I just read an article involving the government enforcing intergration. In response Virginia shut down some of their schools because they'd rather close the schools than let the darkies in. Sometimes the stuff you read about in social studies hits in a totally different way when its in a different format than some textbook

Re: Random thoughts
Random thought. Every day at work I get pulled into meetings I have nothing to do with. These meetingss are usually scheduled for an hour in length. If the meeting ends early -- say it only runs 45 minutes long -- the person running the meeting always says, "I'm going to give you 15 minutes of your day back." But are they really? Maybe it's a glass half empty perspective, but I feel less like they're gifting me 15 minutes and more like they stole 45 minutes. It's like the old joke where women tell their husbands how much they saved by buying things on sale. You could save more by not buying those things at all, and you could gift me a whole hour by not inviting me to meetings I have nothing to do with. I don't feel like sneaking a meeting onto my calendar and ending it a few minutes early is much of a gift.
"I failed a savings throw and now I am back."

Yeah. Call of Duty. FarmVille. Didn't take them long to completely fuck that up.
Also, do it by fucking year. Handheld football is on the same ballot as Portal.

The manager at Wrangler responsible for all the tags and stickers affixed to new jeans shows up to work in August 2020, looks at his whiteboard and sees that there's 5 more tags, stickers, holograms and badges not even close to getting added to the Q4 shipment. "Fucking pandemic," he spits, venomously.
