Here, let me demonstrate: Sam Kinison! He is arguably my favorite ever, but I think some people might feel he was overrated! See? We're just naming names that people might vote for.

I was actually going to say Kinison with the caveat that it was 100% the yelling the bothered me. I'm sure I'd like him a lot better in transcript form. The other name that came to mind immediately is Jon Stewart. I like him and believe we would do beautiful work together if only I happened to run a sanctuary for farm animals, but my opinion based on watching hundreds of Daily Show episodes is that Craig Kilborn was funnier. I'm pretty sure Jon looms infinitely larger in the popular imagination than Craig, deservedly in many respects largely unrelated to comedy, so it seems fair to me to say Stewart is overrated from a purely comedic point of view. I was also never a big fan of his pre-Daily Show stand up routines.

I'll float another two names but I want Ben to decide if they're truly worthy of inclusion: Janeane Garofolo and Ben Stiller. I never liked their comedy and hated The Ben Stiller Show at the time it aired, but my opinions on them are based largely on their work in the 90s and I have no idea whether I'd even feel the same now. I forgot this, but Stiller apparently got an Emmy for TBSS. The market has perhaps already passed judgment on their comedy for us since Garofolo is very under the radar these days and Stiller is now mostly an actor.
