Hamburgers and hot dogs are not sandwiches. If they were, people would order a hot dog sandwich, or a hamburger sandwich, which they don't. It's like saying toast with butter is really a pizza. It's not. Any troll who insists hot dogs or hamburgers are sandwiches should be required to order them as sandwiches and see what happens. Better yet, they should be banned from eating them.

We aren't going to be one of those sites that's all daisy about it. WE KNOW WHAT A SANDWICH IS.

The trick is, you can never mic-drop this, because there is no definition of "sandwich" that doesn't definitely include hamburgers, and probably include hot dogs.

So I am in full agreement with the right-thinking, God-fearing Americans here who know that neither is a sandwich, but if you are ever challenged on it, there's nothing to point to other than "that's my feeling", while they're pointing at their dictionaries.

It's a hard life for us, fellow non-sandwichers.

Last night at Sonic I ordered a Footlong Chili Cheese Sandwich. The lady said they didn't have a footlong sandwich, only the hot dog. I said yes, the sandwich. She then asked me if I was having a stroke.

I think the language has changed since the inception of the two items in question. Hot dogs used to be called frankfurters back in the day and I believe 'hamburger sandwich' was the old timey moniker of the other one. They might not fall squarely in the sandwich category but it's close enough for government work.

Find me a single restaurant menu that has burgers under the heading "sandwiches", instead of a separate "burgers" section or even under "burgers & sandwiches".
