It's still happening. The contractor finished the front today. Still needs one more side and fix the wood rot in the back. We decided to replace the windows while he was there (not Pella!) Going to be three weeks before those get delivered. Meantime the gutter guy has to come and put up the gutters.
Hopefully it'll all wrap up by Memorial Day weekend
Ok, this is a follow-up to the senior moment I had last week with the Die Hard thread.
I needed some minor work done to the shower faucet. I called my contractor guy and he was out the next day. I was at work at the time. I pull into the driveway and my wife comes out and asks me to go right back out to the ATM and get cash to pay the contractor. I go right back out, drive to the bank, walk to the cash machine and stop dead. I cannot remember my pin number. Seriously, I can't remember it at all. I haven't had to use my pin since December and I'm totally stumped.
I get back on my motorcycle, drive home and in some embarrassment tell my wife that she is going to have to get cash out.
If this isn't early dementia I don't know what is....
Update. Did the remedial drywall and now installing window trim. Going with that rustic pine as it's a laundry room and matches the stuff I put in SEVEN! years ago
Hot water heater went while we were on vacation. I didn't know about it until I went downstairs to change the cat box. It had been leaking hot water for a little while. I called our plumbing service and they came right out. We had a new one installed in two hours. This is a huge step up from calling a friend with a truck, buying a tank from a hardware store and spending six hours plumbing it in.
It took the plumbers themselves about 6 hours to install mine because they sold me on a larger, commercial grade one.. that wouldn't even fit so they had to take off the crawlspace entrance temporarily and move dirt around to get it to fit!
I asked about one of those tankless, on-demand water heaters. At least twice the price and they would have had to reconfigure all the pipes. Ug. Oh well, so much for going green.
Does anyone care if I painted the swing set over the weekend?
We've had a swing set since the early 90s. Once our kids got too old for it we gave it to my brother who had three chainsaws with legs....er, I mean nephews. They used it for a number of years until they got too old for it and gave it back, along wirh a second story fort thing. Since there is a grandson now we had to buy all new swings and slide and rope ladder and spend two days painting it. He's not even two yet...
We had a power flicker during the "bomb cyclone" last Saturday. I didn't think anything of it until today when I went to add chemicals to the hot tub. I opened the lid to find the tub empty. It seems the power flicker tripped the breaker and stopped the pump and heater, not something you want to happen in single digit temperatures. It most likley froze up and cracked the pvc pipes, letting all the water out.
Update: the new deck is done. I wrote a check and magically it was done while we were in Maine. They replaced the floor and steps with Trex, replaced all the railings and gate with nice plastic and brought it all up to code while they were at it.
I got in process pix from the builder.
Remove all the old rotting floor boards and railings and lay down the new stuff
