I just purchased a 10TB quota account with iDrive. For the first year, this massive amount of storage costs...$4.98. That's right, less than five dollars. For the first year, of course; after that it's the regular price of around $75. I first misread it as about $60, which isn't too bad, I've probably spent close to that buying storage devices. Only problem is my Internet connection, the speed being similar to copy to SD card or external hard drive, so the about 500 GB of files I have will take about 23 hours to transfer. I mean, even if I don't keep the service, the initial price for this huge amount of space was too good to pass up.
So I went to https://iDrive.com and I can't find the offer I got. Their general price is a minimum of about $60 a year for 5TB, and the 10TB I purchased is about $75 a year. Actually, that's not too bad and personally, at most I'd want the 5 TB allocation. I went up on Chase.com to check my credit card, and sure enough, it was charged $4.98. I checked my account details on iDrive: 10,000GB, next renewal date 10-30-2023.
Actually, they're offering a 5TB account loss-leader for $8 for the first year for 5TB, then $60 a year after that. I must have stumbled upon a special or something.
I got really, I mean *really* inexpensive cloud storage. But I don't know how.

Interesting! The last time I suggested you explore cloud storage, you said:
Does iCloud encrypt your files for you?Tdarcos wrote: Tue Jul 26, 2022 11:51 am if I'm off-line, I can't get to my files. Plus, after Apple announced the ill-fated plan of scanning every file that was uploaded to its cloud storage, I don't trust third parties that I don't know having my files. And I don't want to have to encrypt every file before uploading, then decrypt after downloading.

Nice try A-----e.
What I have is Source code for tens of thousands of programs, a huge collection of Icons, all of my writing files (the audio recordings use 60 GB, and I thought I had erased them by accident.) I'm constantly downloading new things all the time. TThis excludes my porn collection, most of which is on my other computer. Of course, if there's interest, I could upload it to a publicly readable Google Drive...
I've been a programmer since 1976, and I love looking at programs to see how things are done.

As a matter of fact, they do. Either you van use your own encryption key, or (which is what I did) use their "one time only" password generator; it will create an encryption key that you have to save because they won't give it to you again (they can't) and if you lose it, your files will be indecipherable.
I'm sorry. But I'm not always sure about what. Sometimes I'm sorry I was ever born, because if I never existed, I'd never know I'm going to die and vanish into nonexistence forever. Yes, I know I'll never know that I don't exist, but it still saddens me.
I had to end up becoming a quadriplegic to realize how much I love being alive. And how much I have squandered
