Sega Saturn: Enter the Satiator

Post by Ice Cream Jonsey »

The Satiator is a flash cart for the Sega Saturn. It works like you think it would work.

What I learned tonight:

1. I do not have many Sega Saturn games in bin/cue format. I'll get them.
2. SNATCHER, at least the version I have, is in Japanese. A language I do not read.

I played (and sold without knowing the future after I beat it) the Sega CD (USA) version of that game which was the only version sold in English. It's excellent, but as a fan of the creator.. I had to have the original known as "Snatcher - CDROM-antic" which is in Japanese for the NEC PC-Engine CD system. As someone who can play the game with this aid for the kanji-heavy story and dialogue, but translate most of the menu options at a glance in the UIs but struggled to to this with a copy many years ago.. Google Translate works pretty good. Just fire it up with camera mode and point it at the screen. It's not perfect, but it's good enough to where I would have spent way less hours playing Japanese RPGs as a teen (I probably played too many).

I am sort of interested in owning this cart. Haven't fired up my real Saturn in years. Still has the duct tape over the door sensor for the hot-swap pirate method lol

I also recall Saturn cartridge slots being really flakey. I owned a model 1 which broken I er <ahem> traded in then my sister broke a model 2 I had which honestly I kind of understand because she was trying to get the NetLink cart working again in that janky ass slot so.. I "traded" in ANOTHER ONE for the one I have now. With that one I recall still having to basically insert the cart as normal, then pull up like a fraction of an inch to make proper contact.

I appreciate the advice. I feel I need to see if the MiSTer does Sega CDs and just go that route maybe. Or hell, maybe I need a Sega CD machine around here.

It is a little frustrating that the Saturn had Zork, Wizardry and Snatcher available for it, but just in Japanese.

LOL yeah I own the original Zork I and RTZ for Sega Saturn. RTZ is pretty bad.. the Japanese voice acting just doesn't work. However, I thought Zork 1 for Sega Saturn was really cool because it introduced new graphics, music, etc. It also taught me the kanji for "forrest" and "egg"! I might revisit sometime now that I can translate with my phone.

Here is OutRun for the Saturn. It is part of the "Sega Ages" ROM errrRRRR AHHHH CD that I am sure was available for everyone to purchase.
