Dunkirk

Post by Ice Cream Jonsey »

My father and mother in law have a neighbor. This man is 93 years old. He is English and when he was 8, he stowed away on a boat in the historical event most easily described as "Dunkirk" and was part of the maneuever of small boats that allowed the English armed forces to escape, when surrounded by Nazis, from France back across the river Thames, and into the safety of England.

I have been fortunate to spend many a holiday with this great man.

Today, everyone from my in-laws' neighborhood came to our house. I turned on the arcade games in the garage. After a few hours, the neighbor as described above, Stanley, walked down towards the garage and saw Mortal Kombat II for the first time.

He observed one of my nephews playing before him and then when we encouraged him to try it out, he selected Baraka and -- for what I thought was a friendly match -- he beat the shit out of me.

I don't know where else to put this, but considering everything else that happened, I know believe on some level that maybe the destruction of the Nazis was inevitable.
