Intel
I have had a standard purchase order of $50 of Intel stock the last couple of years. It wasn't as high as I thought it could go. No big deal, just gonna pick some up for 15 years then cash it all in when I retire.
It's now at $20 a share. And dropping. I guess this means I will get 2+ shares each month if it stays like this, but on the other hand, it's crazy that you can buy and buy for years and have it all wiped out.
Intel has been a sleazy company. The shit they are doing with their broken chips ought to get people locked up.

Re: Intel
I am going to stop buying $50 a month when I get a car payment next.... but man, it was nice to get two-plus shares for the same standing order.
They have to recover, right? Right? RIGHT?

Re: Intel
The months before an election is not a great time to judge stock values, the investment houses kinda get wary until they see which way the wind blows in November. Wait until Intel has the next big chip breakthrough and the price goes zooming

Re: Intel
Intel stock just hit a historic low because their relatively recent to latest chips will self destruct due to (please do not quote me) voltage regulating microcode that overloads them (effectively.) If you're buying Intel, now is the time as they'll likely bounce back. Or don't. Who knows? It ain't me.

Ask the Enron employees whose 401K was all invested in their employer's stock.Ice Cream Jonsey wrote: Tue Aug 27, 2024 9:10 am I am going to stop buying $50 a month when I get a car payment next.... but man, it was nice to get two-plus shares for the same standing order.

Ask those who bought stock in Radio Shack,
Ask those who bought houses in Texas in 75-79 before the S&L crisis. "After all, real estate prices only go up, right?
Ask those who bought houses in 2007 before the banking crisis.
Ask those who bought houses in 2019 or 2021 and discover they need to sell because their current house is now unaffordable and have to move someplace cheaper, and find they have to sell, not at a profit, but often at a loss as the sale price is less now than when they bought it, and they would have to bring money to the table to repay the mortgage balance.
Nothing goes up forever, any investment can lose value. And sometimes a thing can go from valueless to valuable. Do you think anyone expected real estate in what was South Vietnam when it fell to be worth anything about 55 years later?
If you want the closest thing to a guarantee, buy gold. Specifically one ounce coins like the Double Eagle, which can be used for 401K. One ounce coins don't have enough extra space to try counterfeiting them, which was done in the 1800s to bullion bars by using a valueless metal inside, then giving it a coat of gold. The most common "valueless" metal was platinum.

Re: Intel
My comment was tongue in cheek, but the one thing Intel has that the other companies do not have, is a desire and need by the US Government to see them succeed and continue making product.Tdarcos wrote: Wed Aug 28, 2024 12:47 am Ask the Enron employees whose 401K was all invested in their employer's stock.

I bought some, thinking they would ride the semiconductor wave with some of their competition.
I was wrong. I sold it and cut my losses.

Re: Intel
I went to a Dell/Intel meeting last week. Their new line of processors are coming out in October. The big push seems to be more/new chips on the mobo for processing AI and getting away from hyperthreading.

Re: Intel
I have canceled my monthly purchase. The fact that they haven't fired their CEO yet and the fact that his reaction to all of this was to tweet Bible verses pushes me off this total waste of time and money. Good work, idiots. The government won't let you fail and gave you billions of our money to waste. Awesome work.
What I was spending on Intel is going towards getting my nephew another day of day care, which I think is a much better use of funds for my family and society. And then my next computer will have an AMD chip. (Although that is probably five years away as I just upgraded a couple months ago to thankfully not an affected generation Intel chip.)
I realize none of these decisions realistically affects that garbage corporation in the slightest. But man, it feels good to "vote with my dollars." I guess I could also vote as a shareholder. My only real hope is that sometime in the next 15 years their stock goes above what I paid for it and I cash out.
I AM THE TASTE MAKER!!!!

ICJ: You should post in WSB - you sound much akin to the now infamous Intel Guy who lost $203,000 in 48 hours on Intel stock.

I only have like 55 shares.
In between quoting Bible verses on Twitter, the dumbass dope that is their CEO said the government is giving them another three billion. They'll shitcan this guy (he'll fail upward) and figure it out. Eventually. The US government is ensuring that Intel can't actually fail and close, I think.

You read this guys Wikipedia and he sounds fucking genius.. until you get to the bottom of the article. The "Personal Life" section.
Aims to CONVERT one MILLION people? Why? If you run a cool church, people will come. If you try to CONVERT people to join your church, you are just going to piss people off lol. So stupid.Gelsinger and his wife Linda are Christians who "support multiple worthy causes", including sponsorship of disaster relief medical teams. In 2013, Gelsinger co-founded Transforming the Bay with Christ (TBC), a coalition of business leaders, venture capitalists, non-profit leaders and pastors that aims to convert one million people over the next decade.
