This is a tough one. Is there an 'Other 'option?

It seems killing someone is the only way to send a real message anymore. Gluing yourself to trees and famous artworks and stuff just doesn't have the media punch.

School shootings dont even have "media punch" anymore.

I had no idea there was another shooting yesterday, until late in the evening. There was a time when I'd see/hear this everyone I turn.

We have become numb as a society.

Hot take: people who think a CEO getting shot is worse than anybody else getting shot are retarded.

The reason the media pushed this killing as 'tragic' and 'shocking' was to try to imbue the idea that killing business executives is much worse is because, if people get the idea that corporate misconduct justifies retaliation against executives, then people might decide when some corporation engages in layoffs, executives do bad things aren't punished, or those in power commit bad acts, people might decide to use vigilantism in response.

If a health insurance company - or any other insurer - has a habit of wrongfully denying claims, CEOS would have to travel in armored limousines. If someone with a terminal disease decides to kidnap or kill the CEO of the insurer that denied payment on their claim, C-suite executives might decide not to do such things in the future. Or once people get the idea, it might lead to mass violence against, or killing of, corporate executives.

Hot take: it is worse because we live in a copycat society. One deranged person thought it was OK to murder someone in the public eye. Now someone else will think "Hey what a neat idea, I am going to do that too!". And so on. And so on.

No, the CEO of a healthcare company's life is not any more valuable than the life of Average Joe. But it gets a lot more publicity and creates copycat opportunities.

Isn't the copycat problem much worse in gang related murders? Why is it worse in the CEO's case?

Amazon forced these guys to work during a tornado or be fired. They died. This was never prosecuted.

Why is one kind of murder okay?

False equivalence.

I dont know what you do for a living, but if someone didnt like how you did your job, should have to worry for your life? Maybe 99.9999% of America thinks you do a great job, but one whack job has a bad experience with you... that makes it OK for them to kill you?

Where does the article say any of that?

I read that the drivers were told to STOP working, and they died when they took shelter inside a building that may or may not have been constructed to withstand that kind of weather (which is an entirely different valid discussion).

You brought up the copycat argument, not me.

Agreed. Why aren't you posting about it when it happens though? You only showed up when it was a CEO.

There was a poll in this thread asking opinions on the murder of a CEO. I answered that question.

If someone wants to post a poll asking about the murder of another individual, I will likely respond to that one the same way.
