The Atari Jaguar & Lynx thread
Jethro Q. Walrustitty might sell me his (working!) Jaguar, which means I can sell my (non-working!) Jaguar and get a little money.
I also always wanted an Atari Lynx, which was their handheld console. So I am going to throw links in this thread and come back to it in a few days.
It looks like "BennVenn" modifies Lynx II LCD screens to make 'em better: https://discord.gg/F5ckxM2 is a Discord of his, but his main site is https://bennvenn.myshopify.com/
And it seems like he makes a $50 Flash Cart for the Lynx as well.

Here is a pastebin with links to all the Lynx ROMs and the bootrom:
I'll put it here too:

Looks like a real Lynx II with an LCD mod is going for 400+ dollars on eBay. So I am going to try some games out via MiSTer before committing to anything.======================================

At long last, the Jaguar that Walrustitty sold me is HOME. And it didn't work the first time I tried to start Tempest 2000 with it. But it did the second time.
I am now someone who has played Tempest 2000 on real hardware.

Have you tried the Lynx core on the MiSTer yet? How does it compare?
The new handheld I bought plays Lynx games too, but I've got so many emulators to set up before I get to that one.

Yes! I think so. I believe I tried it out and thought ... "this is the real thing" and I was ok if my Lynx never got fixed to work with the flash card. (But then it did.)Flack wrote: Sat Apr 15, 2023 4:06 pm Have you tried the Lynx core on the MiSTer yet? How does it compare?

I have yet to find a "killer app" for the Lynx. To be honest, the pixels are of ginormous size on the MiSTer, so the Lynx's smaller screen makes games like Paperboy look a lot better.

Re: The Atari Jaguar & Lynx thread
I found a list of the top 15 Lynx games and every single one of them is either available on another console, or an arcade port (or both).
https://retrododo.com/best-atari-lynx-games/
I guess the big appeal was playing them on the go.

Re: The Atari Jaguar & Lynx thread
Ehhhh I don't really agree with this list. Where is Todd's Adventures in Slime World? That was definitely one of the best games on this system. Besides being weird and fun to play, the colors just popped awesome on the Lynx display.
Stun Runner I can see being in the top 3 because the Atari Lynx was the only system that had a proper port of this game. Shit, for many early years of MAME we didn't even have computers that would run this game without lag and crackly audio.
I dunno who the hell would attempt to play Lemmings on a Lynx.
Shadow of the Beast on Lynx.. hahah why? Looks and plays bad. Only platform to play this on should be the Amiga.. runner up would be Sega Genesis/Megadrive.
Xenephobe the 7800 version is my favorite home port.. but it's solid on Lynx too. Better than the NES version for sure.
For some reason I didn't know Robotron was even on Lynx so I can't speak to that version.
California Games was often featured in advertisements for the Lynx for good reason.. it's easily one of the best versions of this game!
I never owned an actual Lynx, only tried a demo somewhere back in the day and played the games a lot via emulators. I did own a NEC Turbo Express which imo was farrrr superior to Lynx, but it was stolen over 20 years ago. Lynx was and still is an excellent handheld. I'm trying to recall what other games you play vertically as well as horizontally such as Gauntlet III but it's not coming to me atm.

Tempest 2000 had spinner support.
The Jaguar never had an official spinner.
I now own a controller with a spinner in it for the Jaguar.

Re: The Atari Jaguar & Lynx thread
The Jaguar GameDrive just works.
I took an sdCard with other stuff on it. Threw some Jaguar games on it. Inserted it into the GameDrive, started the Jaguar... and it just worked. A menu came up, I navigated to one of the games I had copied over and it booted.
Actually, it said, hey, this is a non-standard header! Proceed anyway? And I said yes and it did.

Looks like an implementation of the Jaguar is coming to the Analogue Pocket.
