Cannabis recently gained "Class C" Status over here.

You know why these things are illegal? You do know, right? Why we can smoke fags & drink alcohol but not pot?

In Britain, where these laws were introduced, it was for a simple reason; Filthy Foreigners. Marijuana, Opium, et al, were all seen as the kinds of things enjoyed by those individuals who either chose not to speak English, or chose to be poor.
Of course, these people did not outlaw smoking and drinking, because they were quite happy to enjoy those little pleasures while announcing the others "Evil". Just Not Cricket, and all that.

So, y'know, "illegal", I don't think is a good argument. A valid one, sadly, but a no good one.
