I [HATE] Netscape Mail

Post by Lysander »

So, for some assitastic reason, I have to reenter the acount info for my dad's Netscape account. I don't know why. So I accidentally type smpt instead of smtp. Now, I can't change this mistake without having to delete and start all goddamn over again.

I swear, fucking *Outlook Express* can knock Netscape to the ground and go through its pockets for loose code any goddamn day of the week.

What the hell are you using, Netscape 2.0?

Any modern incarnation of Netscape has the ability to change the SMTP server completely independantly of the rest of the mail setup (as, by default, it uses a single STMP server, no matter the number of POP servers you have configured.)

Mozilla's mail client is one of the best there is. I would assume that the one in modern Netscapes is similar. Show some respect!

Actually, I happen to be using Netscape version 7.0. Y'see, here's the ting: I can get to where I'm supposed to change it. I can see exactly where I should change it. I can put my cursor over the offending two mistyped letters, exactly where I should be able to change them, rectifying this idiotic goddamn mistake, and have my dad be able to send email again and get off my goddamn ass about it. Problem? The control is a combo box rather than an edit field. Yeah. Answer me something, why the fuck would those ass-monkeys over at AOL or whoever the christ owns Netscape today (Playmore?) put in a control for the outgoing mail server and make it a fucking combo box sos you can't change the goddamn thing without having to completely delete the account and lose all of the mail you've been saving for the past ten goddamn months?!? Could anyone please explain this simple fucking concept to me? PLEASE?

PS: Random Dialup Disconnection (TM) decided to strike the exact moment I finished typing and was about to hit submit. Thanks, PTI! Fucknuts... I swear, my dad's willing to pay for dialup access and a phone line, but he won't make the switch to cable, even though they're almost exactly the same goddamn price! What the fuck is wrong with this man! Seriously! Arrgh garrgh gaarrrrgghhh!!

If they haven't totally screwed it, you should have the ability to add and remove SMTP servers. Add one with the correct spelling, and remove the wrong one.

Also, if it is indeed like the Mozilla one, each mail folder is a single file, with each mail account a seperate directory. Want to save 'em? Rename the files (to "inbox-old" or something like that), put 'em in the directory on a new profile, and it'll find them automatically. From the mail client, copy the mail from the old folder into the new one, then delete the old folder. Piece of cake.

If the mail client is all hosed 'em, install Mozilla 1.5 and have him use that (it's probably worth doing that anyways.)
