State of the BBS Address, 11.17.03

Post by Ice Cream Jonsey »

Greetings, denizens!

Three important bits of NEWS and JC TRIVIA.

1) It is my understanding that a bunch of guys from Great Britain have followed Keza here from whatever forum, site or bulletin board she used to post to. Hello! I hope you enjoy your stay. Please feel free to start any topics you like regarding GAMING, GUNS or KEZA. These can all go in this base... the Adventurer's Guild! If you'd rather start a political debate, please place it in Auto Body 101: Liberals Get All The Girls. But beware! Sometimes things get a little hot in Auto Body 101 when class is in session. You may feel the need to don your +3 windbreakers vs fire! Ah-ha! If so, please go to Berthilda's Castle, where all that dopey D&D role playing shit is nicely segregated.

2) That Keza, eh? A bit of goer, wouldn't you say? I in fact know almost nothing about her, so fill me in you europervs.

3) Today I spoke on the phone with PINBACK! Pinback is coming to Colorado... Longmont, in fact! This is excellent news. Unfortunately, it means that I probably will not be around for the next few days, seeing as how the cloud of dope smoke and mushroom dust that follows this intercontinental miscreant will block out the pixels from firing on my monitors. On the other hand, once I get the fan going: content. I'll be sure to let you all know how he's doing, and bitch up a storm at him -- from you!! -- regarding how he left us in the middle of the night like a bunch of prostitutes who got done having sex with the Baltimore Colts after eating curries.

I think so. Our last few registered members (hiya guys -- in all seriousness, welcome to the BBS) are all from the UK.

Speaking of which -- now that we are posting regularly to each other's boards again (and honestly, as soon as I get some time I will post your Halo review to the front page of JC where more people will see it), do you want your old base back? Danzaland did a great job, but he's been very busy as of late. It would just warm my heart to have the moderator be "Jethro Q. Walrustitty".... as it should be!!

That Lex. He's a right bastard sometimes, but he's got a heart of gold. He called me from across the pond and left three messages on my voice mail the other day. I can't begin to imagine the cost (I live in America). Whatta guy!

I was about to ask whether the curtains matched the carpet, but perhaps I shan't.

Jonsey: Makes no never-mind. Honestly, when it comes to starting new threads on cars and politics, I'm more likely to post them on Groucho, where those have been popular topics of discussion in the past and presumably will continue to be in the future.

Really, the whole moderator concept, for relatively low-volume forums like ours, is really just a title and little else - like being SIGop in the old days. None of my moderators actually do anything that they couldn't normally do (they could, but don't, and I'd frown on message tossing, deleting, etc anyway)... and it appears to mostly be the same way here.

The Halo review, as was obvious, was written in the heat of the enraged moment. It doesn't really "fucking suck" - but it does have some pretty serious issues which I think are sometimes overlooked by the "big review" places.

And, in case I haven't mentioned it enough yet, I'm having a wonderful time playing Tron 2.0 (except for one or two little bits of extreme difficulty) - it's fantastic to look at and really a lot of fun. It's got a few incredibly large levels, too. Definitely the most fun FPS I've played in quite a while. Certainly more fun than Unreal 2, which was quite good in parts and graphically stunning. Way more fun than Halo, which was positively tedious in many places and graphically unimpressive (yet managing to have a notably poorer frame rate than either Tron 2.0 or Unreal 2.). At the moment, I'd have to give it a 4.5/5.

You shouldn't have to ask, I agree. This ought to be information which all new users are required to enter into their registration forms.

In other news, there is a better than excellent chance that my hair will be a different color within the next 24 hours.

See, I knew there was a reason I shouldn't. Besides, BRUEC would be asking that about you, Lex.

Well, he does have a point. I mean, he's, like, 17 or something, and I'm, uh, 31.
