It's almost complete. Needs a bit more paint and some software work.

Looks like a ton of fun. How much did it end up running you, if you don't mind my asking? I'd love to put something like that together one of these days. I really need to quit my job for two months and live LIFE TO THE FULLEST!!!

Also: did you print out the life-size cutouts (or plans or templates, I guess they are called) at like Kinko's or something?

I bought the full-size templates. It's expensive ($70?) but worth it.

How much did the whole thing cost?

Hmmm. This is rough, but in the ballpark. "More than I expected."

$850 for the control deck
$500 for the monitor
$100 for other ordered materials (T-molding, bezel frame, etc.)
$300 for cabinet construction materials
$500 for the computer
$400 for tools I needed and didn't have (obviously some of these will be useful for other things)
$50 for MAME and Daphne DVDs

So, "not much under three grand" would be accurate, and about 40 hours of work for two people. That's 40 hours each. Having done it once, Amy and I could probably build a second one in about half that time.

That's amazing. How does it handle games like the X-men beat em up? Does Mame even run the eight player version?

I don't know if MAME runs it. You can play the six-player version, but just with three or four characters, however many control sets there were on the actual cab. You can't network them together like you could in the arcade, although Kaillera was trying this for a while and I haven't looked to see if it's still alive.

4-person Gauntlet II or TMNT is a FUCKING TRIP, though.

And of course two-person Michael Jackson's Moonwalker. Yow!

This disposable income thing must be fun. I can't wait 'til I'm 22, have a real job and can afford all three of a generation of consoles.

Sorry guys, I didn't grow up with MAME's games, so it doesn't really touch my interest, but I do understand yours. I am more likely to build myself a sweet Amiga rig ;).
