b3. Christ, sorry. I started getting like this at around this time last night, too. Anyway, make your move but I'm hot and tired and going to shower and get away from the computer for a while, so I might not get back to this until later in the evening or tomorrow morning. Thanks for this though, Pinner. It's been edutastic thus far!

Assuming Qb3:

I fairly strongly dislike Qb3, and here's why: It completely isolates the queen from any of her buddies. One wins at chess by having their pieces work together to achieve a common goal. On b3, your queen, your most powerful piece, is relegated to loneliness, and is unable to do anything with anyone. And at the moment, there's really nothing to attack over there, so she'll end up being useless until either something starts firing on the queenside, or until she moves back somewhere she can do some good.

Anyway... (again, assuming Qb3...)

...Nbd7

Develops the other knight to a nice position where he can start some shit. Also, the fact that my rook couldn't move was making me nervous. If for some reason the e4 pawn goes away, the rook would have been completely unprotected and paralyzed. Now he can skate.

The queen as sniper. Interesting gambit.

Alright, then. Would you mind giving me a shot of the board thus far so I can set things up here at work? Thanks.

Does that get the chicks?

I mean, I can see how it would:
Debaser's Life: A Movie wrote: CHICK walks into cubicle, spots chessboard.

CHICK: What's that?

DEBASER (rolls eyes): A chessboard.

CHICK: I knew that, silly. I mean, what's it doing here? Why is there an unfinished game on it?

DEBASER (suavely): Oh, that's just a game I'm playing with some guy over the Internet.

CHICK: How intellectual!

CHICK swoons into DEBASER's arms. Fade to black.
Or is it not like that at all?

Waitaminute: I'm getting shit from a guy whose idea of debonair is writing pornographic text adventures and hitting on other people's girlfriends from two states away? Don't think I won't remember this shit when I come back to town and take Amy <s>at</s> to the City Museum.

And for the record, I don't actually have a chessboard here. Just a spreadsheet, which, as I'm sure you realize, is dead fuckin' sexy.

Thanks, Ben.

This will prevent your pawn from moving into that square to pressure my queen.

...but it won't prevent my N from doing so! Muahaha!

...Nc5

Notice, this is a double-attack on both the queen and the e4 pawn, which I continue to salivate over.

Dammit. I hate when I make errors of oversight. Not that that actually screws me up in an additional fashion, as I wanted to move my pawn into that space to free up the diagonal.

Qa2

Gets the Queen out of harm's way and into a place where she can't actively be pressured on the very next turn while trying to minimize her loss of board coverage.

Qc2 would have been much preferred, as it would have taken care of both threats (for the time being) -- removing the queen from harm, and also protecting the e4 pawn. Now, you have sequestered the queen even further into uselessness than she was before.

Don't hide your queens, gentlemen. USE them. Don't bench your franchise player.

Anyway, you leave me no choice:

...Nfxe4

What program did you use to generate the board, Ben?

Winboard. http://www.tim-mann.org/xboard.html

(Then "shift-print scrn", then open Irfanview, then paste, then crop out all the child porn covering the rest of the desktop, etc...)

You know, I didn't even notice I had that option. Must be getting myopic today. Aaaanyway...

c5

As I stated last round, I'm freeing up a line of sight to your king. Now I just have to get my other pieces in place...

My knight is at c5. I used the other one to capture the pawn ("Nfxe4" instead of "Ncxe4").

Ah. Dammit.

f3, then. I'm noticing your knight can't advance forward on your next turn, so I'll push him back rather than letting him hold that square.

Be3

Aside from possibly threatening your knight, the black bishop covers a lot more useful board space from there.
