Stuck on Necrotic Drift

Post by lakerz »

Hello,

I'd be the first to admit that I'm a bit dense when it comes to IF games, but I am stuck on Necrotic Drift. Searched the forums for a hint but didn't see anything posted on it, which makes me think the answer is not all that hard. Still...I can't seem to do it.

It concerns the Wraith. How am I supposed to move close enough to it to attack it? Every command I try the game says I'm not close enough. Every command to move closer the game doesn't recognize. Please help, as I'm having a lot of fun with the game. Thanks!

I'm a bit slow on my non corporeal undead. Is this the bugger than throws the food court furniture at you?
Good point Bobby!

If I remember right, you'll first want to find the purse in the jewelry store and then open it to find the silver comb. Things should kick in from there.

If you've done that and still aren't sure, just let me know and we'll go to the next bit. Hope you're enjoying the game!

Sorry I wasn't more specific. I did find the purse and the comb. I have an inkling of what to do (or maybe not as the case may be). It's just that I can't seem to get close enough to the wraith to stop it from harming Audrey. Thanks for the help!

When you find the comb, a spectre should come out of the wall. After you deal with it, talk to Audrey and the game will tell you what to do. Once the lock breaks, get what's inside and throw it at the wraith. If that's not working from you you might want to send Robb a transcript.

Hehe, I've done a rotten job of explaining which part I'm stuck on.

I'm stuck on the part when I get the comb, and then the spectre comes out of the shadows to attack Audrey. I have no idea what to type to kill it. Everything I try the game says I'm too far away. I try to move closer and it won't let me.

Thanks for the help!

I think this is a little bit harder on people new to IF since they don't know what verbs have often been implemented all these years.

I may be wrong about the solution (been meaning to replay it), but concentrate on how you'd attack someone not within reach.

Thanks for the hint. I tried throwing the comb, but that didn't seem to work. I finally got past the part by looking at the spectre first then attacking with the comb. Yay, moving on!

Thanks Roody, I appreciate your help, along with everyone else.

I'm now in another sticky situation. <spoiler>

I have disabled the poltergeist, and defeated the mummy. However, I seem to have some disease that kills me within 12 moves or something. Looking at my inventory, can't figure out what I need to do to cure myself. I tried drinking the healing water of the fountain but no luck there.

I still haven't defeated the revenant at the candle shop, nor the spectre that wanders the halls around the fountain. Same goes with the vampire, although I do have the garlic. Thanks for the hints!

Edit: I should mention that I do have the urn and the menorah w/ the candles from the candle shop. I also have the x-box, big gulp, sunglasses, blue balloon, torch, garlic. Well, I don't *have* them all, but they are all in the fountain area.

I'm *pretty sure* that when you come up from the Dank Dark DungeonTM, Duffy gives you a hint as to where to look for healing. But if he doesn't, you need to look around the health food store.

Lex, you da man. Or something like that.

Thanks Lysander for the hint. Somehow I missed that item when I was searching around. I managed to finish the game, cool ending!

I realized after the fact that I could have saved Casey by giving her blood? I found this out by searching other posts on the game. I have the balloon, but where do I go to get the blood? I've tried going to some of the already dead people/monsters to get it but the game's not letting me do that.

There's no logical way you'd be able to figure this out on your own, so I'll just tell you: it's in the mummy's coffin. To administer it, you need to do something that seems like it would doom Casey but will actually end up saving her. In other words, pretend that Casey doesn't need the blood and look for someone or something else to give it to.

The health store should be northeast from the Food Court. Additionally, if you drink from the fountain, that should restore some health.

So where's the water that is needed when you confront "Sidney" at the end? The only water I ever saw was in the fountain, and my efforts to get some of that are failing miserably.

Hmm, let me check on that tonight - I recall wanting the end to be as easy as possible since I wanted the game to be over just as much as the player, so I'll see what is going on here.

OK, I believe you should be able to put the water from the fountain into the urn.

You then pour the water into, ah, that of a virgin, which is not meant to be a particularly fiendish puzzle or anything, but if you have been stuck on this part, just let me know.

Oh, I worked that out quick enough- after all, it's not like things like that show up unexpectedly for no reason. :D Thanks, I should've tried the urn to begin with.
