Did anyone get Peter Syndicate's "THE MOVIES"?

Post by Ice Cream Jonsey »

Any of you guys get this? As you can probably tell I'm really interested in the movie-making aspects of it, but because of the snow job Peter Bullfrog pulled on us with Black & White I'm really, really loathe to buy this at its full price.

A friend of mine has been sharing links to movies he's made (you can upload your movies and lots of online props can help you out in the game, I think) and to some other funny ones he's come across.

The game actually seems like a pretty cool toybox of things to play with. Unfortunately, my attempts to get my computer up and running to play F.E.A.R. failed miserably (think I broke the motherboard last week so I'm going to build a new computer) so it'll be some months before I'd be able to play this one.

Well, I got this and even with the instruction manual right next to me I have no idea how to sandbox a movie.

That's because you suck at making movies. Look, you give me a copy of this thing and I'll probably be making better movies than you first.

I thought I'd leave that there for an entire day for other people to respond to. Nobody has, so...

Hey, you never wrote the obligatory message that quoted me saying I'd send you the Infocom disc a thousand times. What's up with that? You are slipping!

I'll throw this out there about movies. With no formal training I personally guarantee that I could make a fictional movie better than 90% of the ones that exist. Movie people are in their own little world and outsiders are better because they don't suddenly say, "I should have a dance number here."

Yeah, that's JC for you. Eh? EH!

That was because (A) I told you that only a moron would go throug hthe process of mailing a disc of computer files when you can put them all into a zip that takes up about 7 megabytes mush faster without losing your precious CD. Of course, then you went and defeated me by taking longer than it took for people to realize that "4 minutes and 22 seconds of silence" is in fact a horribly shitty song to do this comparatively simpler task, but rest assured--when I feel like feeling vengeful, now I'll have this message to quote along with the first one, thereby quoting 2000 times. But thanks for the impitous, anyway!

This sounds really daring and on the edge until you realize that Resident Evil: Apocalypse actually made money, and--hey, Robb! How's turning a profit on Necrotic Drift going? You know, the project that took three years to complete? DOn't worry though, his movie will take less time to complete; you do not "burn note" in... _The Movies_.

Yes. That's much better than IF people, who suddenly say "I should have a maze here." Or GM people, who say "I should have a wandering T-Rex on the planes here." Or Paul S. Anderson, who says "I should have Mila Jovavich here." Or DVD review people, who say "There should be an easter egg here." Which is funny, because DVD review people are people who are latched pathetically, quite pathetically, onto a dead medium, getting caught up in the HD VS. Blue Ray "contraversy" whom it will be my intense pleaasure to mock once everyone officially adopts one format only to find--surprise!--that IPTV has already lapped the track three times and is currently relaxed with a Puerto Rican hooker on the sidelines getting blown by some stupid, vacuous, pseudo-celebrity whore (or, more likely, Mila Jovavich) and screaming "Hey, guess who I've been fucking while you were away? That's right--your entire market share! Stupid fuckers! Hah hah hah!" at the very chagrined DVD owners.

PS: Robb, can you try jumping on IM some time in the next metazoic age? It's not that I want to bug you about masteripeces in person--though I do--as much as I wish to discuss programming. I meant to mention it earlier in my little rant up there, but got distracted by my passionate, red-hot ire for Mila Jovavich. Thanks, bro.

There's a lot to like about the above message, and a lot not to like as well. Inside the Poster's Studio investigates.

I'm not talking about generating a profit. As long as people go on dates movies will make money, because what's playing is secondary to groping girls in a dark locale and/or texting people on brightly-lit cellphones, which is all "going to the movies" seems to be about these days.

And--hey, Robb! How's turning a profit on Necrotic Drift going? You know, the project that took three years to complete? DOn't worry though, his movie will take less time to complete; you do not "burn note" in... _The Movies_.
I don't know exactly what you're trying to say here, but I think your point is that some Resident Evil movie made money and an independently created text game did not, even though they both had a "zombie" character in them. Unfortunately, this is such a preposterously stupid thing to say that nobody in their right mind would dare do so.

Furthermore, the way the pricing ended up I only needed to sell 19 copies of ND through Feelies to make my original investment back, which I did.

FurtherMORREEE, ND being in a nice, European-style DVD case puts to shame the hundreds of American game releases that come in fucking shitsleeves. (I don't know the official name -- they are the thing you get when you do not get a jewel case for your disc, like you didn't get in Half-Life 2 or Obscure or Wizardry 8 or tons of other games. So "shitsleeve" is what I'm calling them. HL2 even put your license key on the shitsleeve.)

Yes. That's much better than IF people, who suddenly say "I should have a maze here."
I've never programmed a maze in my life. For someone who can't see you sure don't read so well. I never said that game programmers in general would make better movies than the stupid slobs who currently make movies. I said --==>>>I<<<==-- could make a better movie than 90% of them.

I don't get anything done when I have IM loaded, but for your sake and the fact that you are the only person who types something other than "Fart! Heheh" on this BBS I will.

Which, mine? Or the one by the guy who's name has far too many middle names?
Ice Cream Jonsey wrote:I'm not talking about generating a profit.
Indeed. My poitn was that Resident Evil: Apocalypse is, by all traditional meanings of hte word, successful. And it is quite possibly one of hte worst movies to come out of Newline Cinema in... fuck, *forever*. The point being that pre-literate five-year-olds make better movies than Paul W. S. T. U. V. &. Me Anderson will ever make. Not only can I make this statement, but I iwll prove it, as now thse pre-litearte five-year-old children will get _The Movies_ and make their own in just a few years. Time will see me right on this.

So are oyu planning on cornering the market of people who actually get dates? I think you'll have to move out ofthe commic book and D&D genres for that, bro. Just a free tip. No no, don't thank me--no one ever does.

Actaully, it was more a jabb at how long it took you to complete the project. Or, actually, how long it takes you to take to do anything. And rounding it off with a bash on Revenger, becasue really, when you hake a game like Revenger, how can I not make fun of it?

Do oyu man the plastic cases that take up almost no room on store shelves but break the game with hilariously little effort? My Marvel Superheros and X-Men VS. Street Fighter games came in those.

No, but I am.

I know. I just decided to go on a DVD and Mila Jovavich rant. It's for the content!
