San Diego Comic Convention - Righting Wrong!

Post by Draal »

Comic Convention San Diego.

I'm there with friends, getting my jollies asking people in costume to pistol whip me (a Rebel Trooper waiting in line to see Princess Lala decided to grind his pistol into my head).

Nothing good, nothing grand, just a fan boy who discovered he was a fan boy.

"What booth should we spend money at now?" was asked of me several times. The first three occurrances I told my friends to fuck off, then I just directed them to the World of Warcraft booth. Placation and just waddling around with a bag full of shitty "manga samplers."

A million Naruto headbands. Few older convention goers and "attending artists" asked and wondered what they were.

Seeing a five hundred pound human (sex unknown) cosplaying as a Cowboy Bebop character (wearing the logo) while wearing six of the those damn headbands sucks the fun out of it.

I was ushered away from booths four times.

Openly annoyed at least three sets of artists.

Mailed one afterwards.

And if your attending... Don't say your a movie producer and/or some sort of profession of Hollywood which commands a profound respect as the words escape from your lips (especially if its about "looking for fresh talent"); you want free stuff. Just say it.

Artists arn't stupid. And hey, they arn't artists, their human. Heard that fucken movie line several times and everyone was happy enough to play along - I was an annoying tart who at the least bought something to have the privledge of being so.

First five minutes there, I walked into a panel with Stan Lee.

To say it wasn't all bad, just the perpetual veil of fandom was thrown over all.

Either critics, fanboys, the neutral, ignorant, or another undefined aspect of the spectrum; its hard to hate the guys sitting behind the counters hawking their wares. Easy to feel sorry for them, easy to scoff at the costumed characters drinking coke; impossible to do so when they are enjoying themsleves.

What the convention comes down to is a few days out to enjoy the atomosphere and general lifting of indulging in real life those hours spent indoctornating ourselves either in front of a television or reading a comic.

Argue with a couple dressed as the pair from Final Fantasy 8 , sipping a soda and walking down the aisles to view Advent Children on a projection screen.

Attack the culture then, the consumeristic voyeur scrounging a few pennies to buy a book based on an impulse and investment made because a few hundred dollars was spent sometime in the past.

True, though not the point.

Easy to be a critic, hard to appreciate what exists.

Nice Tits

I am so glad someone posted on Comic Con SD.

I have always wanted to load up the family truckster and dive into that son bitch.

Any pictures? I am sure the title of my post could be observed a few times on those cos play fem fetales.

What was the Mile High Comics booth like? Always wonder about those guys as they are the old standby store here in Denver.

Does mentioning you produce your own home videos count for getting free shit? I mean, hell, I could be a movie producer if it means getting a Stan Lee Pubic hair.

Speaking of Stan Lee.....

Why am I so amused with this new super hero reality show he is involved with? Anyone else watching?

Also, does it seem a little to fake to anyone else? I mean it just seems like the reality victims here are a little bit to on queue sometimes.
The world is a big dairy and I am the man to milk it!

Why does everyone express sentiments in the general sense when replying to my posts?

Draal isn't part of the family so he isn't human nor worth an individual credance.

Question and answer section of the panel, someone asked for a hug from Stan Lee and one was given.

My second time at Comic Con; the first is magical, getting to meet all the creators and originators and being taken in by the scope. Last was a slog about how much money I could spend.

IGN just ran a booth babe gallery on Comic Con I believe. Know about three thousand different galleries (did the convention exist before digital cameras?).

Or did you want to see a Rebel Trooper grinding a pistol butt into my head?

Some posters on here have recently made some really good posts. I, for one, am enjoying the update of the SD CC. It's something I've always considered going to, but man, from what I hear the traffic, lodging and smell can be unbearable.

Plus, they have plenty of comics in every city out here so my desire to go to a place where there are thousands of them is lessened. I say this only because I went to the CGE in Vegas a few years back and I don't want to be called out as a hypocrite.
the dark and gritty...Ice Cream Jonsey!
