Galaga High Score
Last night, on one of those Galaga/Ms. Pac Man games, at Barney's Beanery in old town Pasadena, CA, I got my best score ever:
447,410.
I have a witness to this, who I hope will chime in and corroborate this.
She can also corroborate the fact that 447,410 didn't even make the high score table on this particular machine.

Am I a hero? I really can't say. But, yes.

UPDATE:
To ensure, in my self deprecating manner, that last night's success was a fluke, I headed down to the Prince O' Whales, my local hangout, to play their Ms. Pac Man/Galaga machine, with which I had had limited success in the past.
Let's just say, my quest for defeat was... thwarted.
948,180.
It was only when I realized I might have to intentionally lose guys to keep it from rolling over did I let down my guard. I was at board 92 or such at the time, and my right arm (this time for a noble and just reason) was getting tired, so it just sort of fell apart.
No matter.
Suck on it.

Suck on it.
I humbly bow in your graces.
Puts my high score of 78,640 to shame, but gives me something to reach for....knocking you on your ass.
Is there a "shield" button in this game? How do I activate "shields"?

I know you *can*, but I didn't think that was very sporting or fair. Aren't you supposed to wait until they are properly deployed? It seems a bit like Pac-Man forcing his way into the monster box and re-eating the ghosts when they are still eyes, otherwise. (Due to the fact that while the ships in Galaga are entering formation, they cannot shoot.) (Well, they don't seem to shoot while flying up on stage 1 and 2 which, frankly, is the extent of my experience with this game.)pinback wrote:I don't see how this is possible. You know you can shoot them while they're coming out, while they're forming up top, right? You don't have to wait until they're all in formation?
I am also playing on a handheld. I got much better scores last night when I used that joystick I made. I think I broke 10,000 using it!

They shoot a lot after that. The key to the game is wiping out as many of them as possible before they deploy.Ice Cream Jonsey wrote:(Due to the fact that while the ships in Galaga are entering formation, they cannot shoot.) (Well, they don't seem to shoot while flying up on stage 1 and 2
That, and efficient use of shields.
