Primary HD crapped out

Post by AArdvark »

Now I have to start from scratch. Just got the cable modem working so's I can grab drivers for everything else. of course this is the first place I came to.. Actually 2nd after Groucho, but nothing shaking over there.

Later I have to delve into the depths of the brokern Western Digital and dig out all my emails , photos and docs.

Here's my tally, recently, since Saturday:

2 broken power supplies.
1 broken motherboard
1 hard drive soon on its way out. (Death throes)

Okay, actually, that's not too bad, but it did knock out my two main PCs. I was, at one point, down only to my laptop. I have my coding PC back up with a brand new Antec power supply, so that's at least kept me from going stir-crazy on little laptop excuse-me keys.

I wonder if we had lightning recently while I was away or what was going on, exactly. It's probably not a coincidence that both power supplies died within 8 hours. Or maybe my shitty picking of three fantasy teams did it. Who can tell, who can tell.

Good point. Some of that stuff can't be replaced. Vark, I hope you're making it through this difficult time OK.

Then again, you have teenage kids, right? I'm sure with a little network sniffing you can replenish that cache just fine.

Oh, you so funny.

The kid is off to college, bringing his sweet HP with him. I get left with an old 1.8 Mhz amd and a crapped out HD. Christmas is upgrade time, dammit!

Anyone know of any good data recovery software? All my stuff was on that HD...

1.8 Mhz? Damn, you can't even run Minix on that thing.
