Great win for the Saints and the Falcons today! The Sports Maven admits he didn't get to watch the last couple minutes of those games due to a scheduling conflict (my mac & cheese was ready!), but they seemed to have the games well in hand, so the Sports Maven is quite confident that both teams brought home satisfying, well-earned victories!

Way to go, Saints and Falcons!

Oh dear, I do seem to have put my foot in it this time, haven't I!

That will teach the Sports Maven to wait until the end of the game before proclaiming a winner!

I'm going to rip your lungs from your chest, nail them to a wall and create the official U.N.-recognized flag of the Glorious Nation of You Shutting The Fuck Up.

The Bucs won, at least! And clinched a playoff berth!

Of course, they did it by barely squeaking out a victory over one of the bottom-five teams in the league. Who were playing without their starting QB.

I am going to... er, respond to your post in a logical and engaging manner.

That win clinched the division, right? I am too groggy to do the math correctly. It would have been nice to see the Giants fold today like they did against the Texans, just so that the Saints could be in, but of course they all decided they just had to play. God, I hate Fassel. I mean, I really do not like him. Fucking DIE already (er, his team, not him).

No ... next Bucs win or Saints loss clinches the division for Tampa. If Tampa Bay loses both remaining games and N'Awlins wins both, the Saints win the division on the basis of their owning the Bucs this year.

I'm utterly befuddled by the playoff structure now ... I'd just got used to the three wild card teams and now we've got four divisions and two wild cards.

Can one division have two wild cards now? With the Giants facing a much tougher remaining schedule than the Saints or Falcons, they seem to be most likely to be odd man out.

Yeah, one division can have all the wild cards. Lucky for us that that is the case. Really, though, nobody in the NFC even really remotely deserves to go besides GB, TB, SF, Phi, NO and ATL. The cream definitely rose to the top there or something. As opposed to the NFC where the Chiefs FINALLY after all those years of Martyball and sucktitude have a team I wouldn't mind watching if they made the post-season... and they aren't gonna make it. Ditto the Bills in every other game.

Actually, I don't even really know what the playoff picture looks like in the AFC off the top of my head. I guess things become clearer with how the Titans fare tomorrow. There really does not need to be two AFC South teams in the post-season, though. I mean, I guess something can be said for all those sad-sack fucks who got pasted by the expansion team, but that's essentially four free games for Indy and Tennessee since they have their act together.
