Foie Gras
Wolfgang Puck has banned foie gras, the delicacy made from the livers of forcibly overfed ducks and geese, from his menus, citing the desire to not support abusive food production processes. In addition, foie gras production and sale is already banned in Chicago, and will be banned in California in 2012.
What's your take?

You needed another poll choice: Who cares, it's way too expensive for what it's worth.
I used foie gras the last time I made beef wellington and it didn't make any difference at all even though I paid something like $40 for a stupid little package of it. Regular liver pate with truffles will do just fine.

No, because that's stupid. Even if you can't afford it or would never buy it, you might have an opinion on whether or not the process by which it is made should be allowed.Casual Observer wrote:You needed another poll choice: Who cares, it's way too expensive for what it's worth.
I ain't a maggot, but I don't believe in banning GAY BARS.
Brilliant as ever, CO. Keep up the very, very bad work.

Do you eat eggs? I do even though I feel that it's cruel to keep hundreds of chickens boxed up in cages so tight they can hardly move for their entire miserable lives. But unfortunately we need to do this because people need a good cheap source of protein and poor people couldn't buy them at $3.50 a dozen that cage free eggs cost. So I feel like it's a necessary evil.pinback wrote:I ain't a maggot, but I don't believe in banning GAY BARS.
Foie Gras involves force feeding a duck or goose for only 12 - 14 days. I feel that a lifetime of 8 to 10 years of close confinement for a chicken is more cruel than a couple of weeks of overfeeding. The health consequences of an oversized liver matter not because this is done right before slaughter.
There is no urgent need for foie gras, no people will starve or lack protien if it is not available so why not ban it.

I buy cage free :( Even when unemployed, I couldn't bring myself to not shop green. When I was broke, F yeah, juice from concentrate, cheap milk and eggs, but having a paycheck, no matter how small, I become a quivering ball of guilt not buying free range, cage free, soy based, whatever. I know alot of it is bullshit, but I try. Veal is probably worse than foie gras, but, still. Granted, I've never had it. If I did, I may be all like F those bitch geese!

The phrase, "good goddamn" and needless cruelty to tasty animals. A match made in heaven!
I'm sorry for liking veal so much. I get it all the time. I stay sane by not thinking about it. Of course it's horrible. If I was big on banning shit I'd be right there. But we have lost too many things in this country already and I don't feel people are being particularly particular when it comes to stuff you can't get or do in the States any longer.
There is a streak in a lot of people, not the majority or anything, but enough, that loooooooooves making things, acts and processes illegal or impossible. Fuck 'em. I've never had foie gras but I'll certainly try some the next time it's presented to me if a corporate shill like Wolfgang Puck is making the big decisions in this country.
Oh, yeah:
