The Current Status of the new FoD packs

Post by Ice Cream Jonsey »

This has become a debacle. I should solicit advice on this from Romero and Smart.

Let's bring in Q and A to handle this shit.

Q: Welcome, A! Ready to get started?
A: You know it, brother. I'm always ready for dis shit.

Q: How come there aren't any ready-to-buy Fallacy of Dawn packs?
A: It basically comes down to the starting price point of the packs to get started. I'm going to expound on this throughout this post, but that's the real killer. I want to get 50 of them made, and just have them around, ready to ship out, ready to give to New Media reviewers, ready to give to the one guy who had ordered a pack months ago, accidentally through the feelies.org website.

Q: How will this pack differ from the previous incarnation?
A: The previous FoD pack available on feelies.org involved a CD style jewel case, an inkjet printed cover and such, and a handwritten disc. Now, this was back in something like 2002 - Internet printing hadn't taken off yet. So while having "Fallacy of Dawn" written on the disc is unbearably ghetto in 2007-going-on-2008 ... well, I'm not going to beat myself up about it. I want to improve them going forward.

The new pack will be a DVD case, a brand-new DVD cover, a properly screened disc (Mixonic may use an inkjet printer, I am not sure, but either way it is fine) and then probably shrinkwrap over the whole thing. I did this for Necrotic Drift, and was very happy about it.

Q: What about the map and the ree?
A: I am slightly nervous about including food now that I have a home. I don't want to get sued if someone chokes down a pill badly, due to the fact that when I exited my last apartment, over an unreasonable dispute regarding cat #5, my termination letter took the form of a bunch of shat-within cat litter poured to spell, "EAT MY BALLS" on the living room carpet. (This is also how I plan on having Zan and Jana tell their landlords that they are not renewing their lease, when I one day get to write the Justice League of America comic and bring them back along with Blue Beetle. Don't tell anyone.)

But yes, definitely, on the map. And the token, sure.

Q: What's the starting price point of getting all this nonsense going?
A: It'll be over $200 to get started on all of them, which is fine, but events keep happening to cause me to shelve this. Just stuff with an overpaid bonus and such, blah blah, but I'm coming to the end of that.

Q: Who is going to want to buy a hard copy of a free game that has already had a run?
A: I don't know, probably the 150,000 people Malinche has sold to.

Audience: laughs

A: No, seriously, if it takes five years to sell through, then great. I imagine when the next, new game is ready, I'll be able to sell them both in a package deal with a carnival of savings. It'll be fine.

Q: So, what's the final deal?
A: It IS coming. I fret about it weekly. I'll update this base when I have more news.

Q: Are you going to do another print of Necrotic Drift?
A: I don't forsee that happening, no.

Aha, I was wondering what was up with these. Well, whenever they are ready perhaps their existence will re-jump-start the feelies.org jump-start. ;) I need to nudge Emily and Gunther again to see what's up (it all seemed to stall again some months ago).

That box is BRILLIANT by the way. How the hell you found the "Romero" font is beyond me. Holy shit that was awesome, hygraed.

Here's the deal with the packs: I want them to be a "test run" for when I sell the next game. I am bumping this so I don't forget. Man has this thing turned into a Duke Nukem Forever kind of fuckup on my part.

I would also like to change the official "why they are held up" reason to be my dissatisfaction with the cover graphic, which looks like three people photoshopped together. Which it, like, is, but still, it need not be so blatant.

Would you mind including these forums as a hidden extra on the disc?

Yes, but only if everyone agrees to rub the data for that part with a Sharpie at the end of May.

If the forums are closing, why not? Everyone gets a backup and its kinda neat to have six years or so of writing as an extra.
