I just bought a PSP
It's nice, except that apparently the latest hardware revision contains a new motherboard which prevents the exploit that allows the user to install custom firmware for emulation/homebrew software.
I will never, ever understand what spurs a company to deliberately remove functionality from their product. I posted a thread back in November in which I bitched about Microsoft doing something similar, except that in Sony's case they're actually removing an incentive for a lot of consumers to buy their product. What Scrooges must be in upper management that would actively prevent an enthusiast community springing up around their product? Maybe I just don't understand big business, but that seems like a completely backwards move, especially in this day and age.
On the bright side, the device itself is quite nice. I picked up Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories and Patapon along with the system, and while GTA feels like they just sort of crammed a console game onto a handheld, Patapon is one of the best games I've played in a long time. It was clearly designed by people who know exactly what they can do with the PSP, and it's an immensely satisfying and unique game. The screen is also quite good for watching movies, and its WiFi connectivity is put to good use.
In conclusion, Sony has made an excellent product, but they should stop trying to prevent their customers from using it to its fullest potential.

Pandora Battery
Good purchase, I love mine and love my new 8gb chip, wink, wink, nudge, nudge.
Are you sure the pandora battery option will not work? I have an extra one I would let go pretty cheap. I bought one on Ebay prior to the guy getting booted by them and thought I would not receive it so, I bought from the UK and now have 2 of them. It works every time and I have used the pandora battery on 5 systems now without issue.
I would be curious if this new board even stops this as an option.
God of War is pretty damn good on the go on this thing. I am also a big fan the Vista theme thats available out there as it looks pretty nice. Give Lumines a try for some addictive game play.

hygraed: if you can still return the new one, I have a 1.5 that i never updated because i didn't want to jump through hoops to play homebrew. you can have it for whatever you paid for the new one plus whatever you want to give me for the extra shit; I haven't even turned it on in like a year. i have a card for it (1g), like 10 games and a nice hardshell case. screen protector, some lame lightup game stand (only the japanese would come out with a purple light up BATTERY POWERED stand for the games)..
let me know if you're interested. i'd much rather have someone make use of the thing than have it sit around neglected like so many other things (COUGH MR2 COUGH COUGH)
well, with the original 1.5, you don't need to fuck with ANYTHING. shit just works.
unless it requires firmware higher than that; i really haven't paid attention to whether or not they have a workaround for that. part of the reason I put it away - the newer games refused to run without flashing to a new firmware - I refused to "upgrade".

totally off topic, but why does "Websense" block Jolt Country of all sites? fucking gamespot isn't blocked.

The slim won't run 1.5, but anything else will. I actually made a pandora battery at school for my friend. He brought in a PSP, I futzed around, found an MSI that does all the work, and made him his battery. He downgraded on the spot.JS proxy like WHAA wrote:well, with the original 1.5, you don't need to fuck with ANYTHING. shit just works.

Yeah, you can't make the battery. Also you'll need an older battery. Once I have a minute or two, I'm going to make myself a pandora battery, which I can pretty easily post to you.hygraed wrote:Yeah, apparently the new motherboard only removes the ability to softmod the battery. I can still hardmod the battery or get an already-modded one from someone else, so I might just see about doing that.
MONKEY ISLAND HERE I COME
Good point Bobby!

You need a spare card, a spare battery, and a homebrew PSP. Then you use that MSi and press like three fucking button and get a fucking scroll of ressurection for your PSP.jsprox wrote:definitely post it up. i've been out of the loop for so long it would be interesting to see what the hax0r kiddies have come up with.

Just for my own curiosity, can you check to see if www.caltrops.com is blocked next time?
