Haha! ICJ, was that you on ifMUD I was talking to about U4/Lazarus? I'm only gradually grasping who's behind the various handles there.

Here's a U4 conversation (Roofus in Bucanner's Den) you can safely view:

NAME: Roofus
pronoun: He
LOOK: A mean looking guard.
JOB: We guard the bridge slime!
HEALTH: What's it to ya scumpuppy!
BRIDGE: This bridge ya stupid jerk!
query: Art thou a wise #!?
YES: Thou had best ditch it then!
NO: Then just buzz off!

Oh yeah, that was me! The character limit was too short on the mud for this handle (if I remember correctly) so I just typed in the first thing I could think of when I registered there years ago, which happened to be the hockey player Mark Recchi. If I had to do it all over again, I'm sure I would have chosen "Mr. Do!" which is equally embarrassing.
JOB: We guard the bridge slime!
Haha, that's great stuff. When I turn 65 years of age and immediately quit my job at the time with no warning and cash in my 401(k) I am going to find a job somewhere in Colorado where I can say the same when asked. "Well, I used to be a programmer, but now I guard the bridge slime." It may not be a paying position, granted, but I don't care.

(If I turn 95 years old, I plan on eating nothing but chicken korma for every single meal, 21 meals a week, because seriously, what am I saving myself for. Which doesn't have anything to do with this thread, but still.)

Also, I did manage to go over to that site and look. He helpfully archived some of the games' output into a zip file. Since I solved Ultima 3, I was able to go and read through it all. Good stuff - I like that you are basically told right away about the exotics and how to get them, but since you are probably soaking in the atmosphere at first, it comes off like crazy talk. Garriott was a genius.
