You bet. We know this about the poltergeist - it doesn't seem to be able to hurt you directly.

And it doesn't follow you anywhere, it is stationary in that one room.

And the items it throws at you can be picked up afterwards.

I should also add that if the above did not help, just let me know and I will put in the solution - I am bad at getting hints to the puzzles I made written so they helpfully prod at the right pace. I think this is why I don't put them into the games themselves.
