Video Games to Complete in 2009

Post by Ice Cream Jonsey »

I consider this to be my New Year's Resolution. Finish some of the hundreds of dollars I've dumped into games. It's a long year, so here we go:

FALLOUT 3: I can basically "finish" this at any time by starting the last quest. I am exploring for my own edification. This game has also forced itself into my top 10 of all time, which is frustrating because BioShock did too, I thought. Outlook on Finishing: FIVE STARS

PERSONA 4: This one has taken a temporary back seat. It's really goddamn charming, and I love zoning out, giving it a play. There was actually a couple minutes' worth of creepy writing in the first two hours as well, which is amazing for video games. The only thing that would cause me not to finish this one would be my hatred of a lack of save-anywhere. But I understand save points are pretty easy to find going forward. Outlook on Finishing: FIVE STARS

LEFT4DEAD: I bought the demo. I loved it. 50% because of the game, and 50% because of the guys I was playing with.

I believe, to finish this, I just need to hop on Caltrops and ask some fellas if they are up for it. This won't be a problem.
Outlook on Finishing: FIVE STARS

WASTELAND: I went far in this, but I have no idea where the save-game is. God, I wish I could remake this so I did not need the book! This is the first game in my "external backlog" I'd like to complete. Outlook on Finishing: FOUR STARS

FALLOUT 2: This one I never went far in. I am so enamoured with Fallout 3, that I want to play most every game in the lineage. We'll see, this one may be tough to go back to, I am not a graphics ho or anything, but... well, we'll see. Outlook on Finishing: TWO STARS

GYRUSS: I will consider this "finished" when I have the top score on my machine. Ben walked up to it and got the #2 and #3 scores without trying very hard. Meanwhile, it's been like two years and I can't beat the score that is in there. Can I get to Mars? How is the outlook on that? Outlook on Finishing: ONE STAR

time to DO IT AGAIN I GUESS

MAFIA: I have made exactly zero progress on this game since I posted about it in the other thread. I will more than likely finish it this year though, since I intend to do a video Let's Play of it after I finish my Simpsons VLP. Outlook on Finishing: FIVE-ISH STARS

HALF-LIFE: OPPOSING FORCE/BLUE SHIFT: I have decided that I am going to play through the entire Half-Life series. This includes the expansions, Opposing Force and Blue Shift. I almost finished Opposing Force a couple of years ago, but there is a completely unfair portion just before the end in which you have to navigate this completely lightless labyrinth filled with insanely powerful monsters, any one of which can kill you in about four seconds and takes half your arsenal to kill. I declared the game "finished" when I got to that part, but I think I am going to try to complete it properly this time. Blue Shift's non-completion can be attributed to apathy. Outlook on Finishing: THREE AND A HALF STARS

MARC ECKO'S GETTING UP: This game is a lot better than I expected it to be; I am bemused as to why it received largely mediocre reviews. I'm stuck on a part where you've got to tag four spots on a city block, and there are five patrolling cops you have to avoid since if you kill one, another one spawns in to take his place. Outlook on Finishing: FOUR STARS

TITAN QUEST: Picked this one up with the expansion in a Steam sale. It runs like shit on my laptop and has a problem where the mouse input gets backed up somehow and I have to wait for the input buffer to clear before I can do anything else. It's really good though, and I plan on getting a fancy-pants new Dell with a 9800GT sometime in the next couple of months, so I should be able to play it much more smoothly. Outlook on Finishing: FOUR STARS

JUST CAUSE: Hahahaha just kidding this game has literally a trillion side missions

I finished OP4 and Fallout 2 about when they came out when I was 14. Hopefully that guys can motivate you a little. The best part about OP4 is the ending (and having new multiplayer weapons in 1999) tough it out, there is a trick with those really tough monsters, from what I remember it was shooting their guns off their hands.

Fucking Fallout 2 is like a near eight hour game. It's really not that long. You might think it's super long when you start playing it, but the curve is all fucked up.

PERSONA 4
I finished Persona 3 so
Outlook on Finishing: FIVE STARS

BLITZ II
I sent this back to gamefly and canceled my account, but I might pick it up again and play it through.
Outlook on Finishing: ONE STAR

MERCENARIES 2
I'd really like to replay this co-op with someone, possibly employing cheats so we can both play as Barrack Obama. The problem with this is that I need to finish it the first time, and find one person, ONE SOLITARY PERSON who respects the fucking historic context of this.
Outlook on Finishing: FOUR STARS

THE WITCHER
I bought this because I was stuck in PA without my laptop and bored. My brother's computer couldn't run it, and it's supposed to be Enhanced, but I heard it was still the same shitty slow game, which god CRPGs have been forever.
Outlook on Finishing: TWO STARS

RED STAR(?) for the PS2
I can't even remember the title here so
Outlook on Finishing: ZERO STARS

GOD OF WAR 1 and GOD OF WAR 2
I want to finish GoW 1 before GoW 2 and it seems like GoW 1 wants me to push a crate up hill, stopping at little notches in the hill to fight enemies.
Outlook on Finishing: THREE STARS
Good point Bobby!

Will you finish BRAID in the coming year? If not can I just tell you how it ends?

I'll finish it in the next seven days if you agree that we'll have the same conversation we would have had if I had finished it when it was new. I think that's a hell of a deal.

Additionally I will explain the ending after you, even if no one wants me to.

I've made no real progress, 'cept for Fallout 3.

I am considering making a specific PC for Wasteland. A dedicated 13" monitor!

Current status:

MAFIA: Still gonna do that LP!

HALF-LIFE: OPPOSING FORCE/BLUE SHIFT: Fuck this

MARC ECKO'S GETTING UP: Fuck this

TITAN QUEST: Haven't played this one any more, but I fully intend to. The input lag problem is nonexistent on Windows 7, so it should be much easier.

JUST CAUSE: I'm chipping away at this one. There are so many fucking missions in this game, it's ridiculous.

I like the idea of backloggery.com. I do, I would just need for it to make an RSS feed of my own backlog.

...

Well, it's a good thing we don't do Twist-n-Quotes (TM) any more, otherwise I wouldn't be able to sleep, leaving a line like that out there. :/

Goddamn. Pretty much everything I said last year + Persona 3. (Also probably + Persona 4 & Oblivion, which are likely purchases).

I am only good at starting things.

It makes your nose hurt, and after your third or fourth bump, you gag when you snort it. Damn, you sure get a lot done, though.
