OK, what would make anyone go there and hang out? What could be done to make it better than just having a system in one's living room?

They've tried this around here before a few times, sometimes as part of a game store and sometimes as a stand alone store. I guess the selling point is having games that work off of local networks (Xbox, PS2, and so on). A lot of these same places also have PC networking games as well.
Also I guess it's popular for people like me who don't have three friends who will come over and play games, hah.
I would love to open an arcade and console gaming center ... like one from the 80s, with no lights and a cigarette machine in the corner for kids. Also I would need to be rich first because I'm sure this wouldn't make enough money to pay for rent.

Don't know anything about it except by word of mouth. I heard it's going in the same plaza that CompUSA was in. That's about it.
Maybe huge flatscreens for the consoles and good birthday party rates. Don't know if regular arcade machines would cut it anymore. Maybe the older ones. They had a pretty good sized arcade in Jillians but most of the games were crap. bright shiny blinking loud heaps of crap. And those stupid ticket dispensing style games.

A local arcade owner recently told me that his arcade is 1/4 redemption, 1/4 pool tables, and 1/2 arcade games.
About 85% of his income comes from the redemption games and 15% comes from everything else. And actually he said of the 15%, about a third of that comes from DDR.

There was that "anime" store that opened right next to the cheesesteak place in closed in that plaza (across from Southtown), are they still there? They had an Initial D when they opened, I still have the card that printed from the machine with my car and "JACK STRAW" on it. I only went the one time though, they said they were adding more games. If so, they'd be in direct competition with this games store, and we could stroll back and forth between arcades!
