My alarm clock just died. I have to wrap the cord around itself very tightly to get the electrical connection made. It was old, so no big deal. I figured that someone must have written a program to play an MP3 at a certain time. Therefore, my computer could be my alarm clock.
Wakemeup (now called Banshee Screamer) is a program that will do just that. Well, right on. It's, what, ten lines of code? At time x, play MP3 y. Dealing with different days and scheduling or whatever could be a task for advanced players, I guess. Well, in this very app is frigging spyware -- Onlook! A guy couldn't code up a simple alarm clock without attaching leech programming to it? WTF?
As it stands right now, every time I go to download some kind of Windows app, I place its name in a Google box along with the word "spyware" and see what I find. More often than not, up comes some results. Baffling. But apparently there is a need for a Windows alarm clock that will not report back on you. (I know you can ultimately use Task Manager, but I was hoping to get something with a GUI -- it's 2:50am and I need to be up by 8:00 am.
