My Wordpress 2.7 Complaints
Whoa, this is terrible! Here are a list of my complaints:
- I can't login using Chrome. That's right, I can not go through the process of authorization using Chrome.
- Putting images in a post is now a terrible, terrible process. First, they moved where you need to go to add an image. It's above the toolbar-type area.
- It ignores you if you want to use the align="left" tag
- There is no way to have it put a margin in there, unless you edit the code, and if I am going to do that, why wouldn't I do that in the first place?
- Something has started to put a shifted "A" character on some of my posts. What on earth is up with that? It usually shows up on the end of lines.
It's really frustrating, because it's getting bloated just like every other piece of software. I really, really wish they would have stopped working on it after 2.4 or whatever I had. Argh, this sucks - it's not unusable or-- wait, yes it is, since I am on Chrome for most everything else. Argh!

Hey ICJ, try erasing your cache or something -- I use Chrome on my WordPress 2.7 site and haven't had any problems.
I do agree, they kind of have us over a barrel -- if you don't upgrade you are running a product with known security vulns, so they force you to upgrade and take whatever new interface they dream up along the way.

Did you get it working?
I had a few readers tell me my rss feed stopped working around the time I upgraded to 2.7. Wordpress seems to think it's my theme, but I've changed themes and it still doesn't work. I just got away from Feedburner a while back but it looks like I might be moving back to it shortly.

Oh! Yes, I would like to say that when I cleared my cache, I was able to get in through Chrome just fine.
I would like to retract many, if not all, of my "complaints" about Wordpress 2.7. Thanks for the heads-up on the rss feed: your site comes across OK in that google.com/ig thing, if that is helpful as a data point.

Re: My Wordpress 2.7 Complaints
I specifically recommend against Chrome. There is a function for generating print outs in a browser that tells the browser that the information is to print on a new page. (I have to disguise it here because PHPBB will sanititize it to prevent it from activating.) It's the <br> command with a parameter:Ice Cream Jonsey wrote:Whoa, this is terrible! Code: Select all
br style="page-break-before:always;"/>

A Google search for this parameter page-break-before:always returns 110 million hits.Flack wrote:I've never seen anyone use that html command before. Ever.
A customer has a function where the members of his association can print 1-per-page, 2-per-page, or 3-per-page coupons with a serial number, anything from 1 to over 1,000 at one time. So as not to print a coupon across a page it issues this command to separate them. I didn't know about it either until I had to use it. It's a lot easier than, say, generating PDF pages.

I love everything google but for some reason chrome hates me. It won't run on either my work computer or either of my home computers. I figured it was my pirated version of windows xp at home that was the problem but no dice on xp professional at work either. I've tried no less than 4 times to install it and it refuses to work at all.

Nothing stops you from running multiple browsers for multiple purposes. But if you need the output to format correctly then you have to use something that follows the rules that everyone else does, which Chrome is not doing. I don't bother with Opera but I'll bet it honors page break for printing.Flack wrote:If I have to choose between printing coupons and running the fastest browser, color me Chromed.
Oh yeah, I forgot: is Chrome open source? If not, it's just another proprietary piece of bloatware no different than IE. Otherwise its problems could be fixed by anyone.
Wikipedia confirms Google has released the source code to Chrome under the name "Chromium." So I take back the phrase "proprietary." There's also a new release, maybe they've fixed this.

I'm using the latest release of Chrome right now. It is fast, it's actually faster than Firefox, plus the install was very well done. I see screen changes that are blindingly fast, it is good. I may use it for some things in place of Firefox. I will add it to anything I need cross-browser support in addition to FF and IE.Flack wrote:If I have to choose between printing coupons and running the fastest browser, color me Chromed.
Only problem is part of what I'm doing requires adequate printing support and Chrome still does not support printing directives correctly. I checked, on my customer's application it ends up chopping an item in half when it generates a printed item. It also doesn't respond to the website's requests to start printing; the Print window doesn't come up unless I request printing.
Choosing speed is fine if printing something isn't part of your job, but as such I do and in this case it doesn't work. As it was pointed out in Gerald Weinberg's 1980s book The Psychology of Computer Programming, if a computer program doesn't have to work right I can build you a web browser that is even faster than Chrome.
