Starcraft 2: The Album

Post by Flack »

I still haven't tried Starcraft II, although I did run across the soundtrack online -- perhaps listening to it will get me in the mood?

If I wanna hear people bashing on SC2, I'll go to the official SC2 forums okay? You guys got anything else?

What -- seriously, you guys -- what I can't believe is that in my entire circle of nerd/internet friends, I don't know a single person who plays SC2.

This is fucking unacceptable. What is your objection? Obviously you geeks play video games, why don't you play this one?

Every second I spend playing a game that isn't SC2, I feel like I'm wasting my time, because every other game is built to fill you with wonder and make you feel inspired, while SC2 exists to make you feel horrible and encourage you to better yourself.

There haven't been enough advances in the RTS genre to make Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty a "must-play."

I mean, I played Warcraft 2 and it rocked my world. Time stopped. I did nothing else till I finished it.

But really, it's not just RTSs. I finished BioShock and Fallout 3 because they were so different than what I played before. BioShock 2 and Fallout: New Vegas, I just sort of putzed around with.

But the number one reason I can't do RTSs is because you are too good at them. I've never beaten you. I don't find pleasurable the things that are necessary to have fun in them. It's why I don't play sports games with my brother any more. Same sort of thing. I like clicking on the dudes, moving them around, building stuff... you need something like 400 APM in order to do anything worthwhile with RTS games. I just don't like them enough to get that good at them.

Starcraft 2 is very hardcore.

I'd never even heard of SC2 until you mentioned it. What is Starcraft II, anyway?

I used to get in a rage in SC 1 when some snot nosed kid from Des Moine or Walla Walla would kick my ass when I so lovingly deployed my troops in an unbeatable fashion. I hadda give it up or keep buying new mice and monitors. and keyboards.

It is the sequel to StarCraft 1, basically exactly the same game but with better graphics and slightly different units.

It is a "Real Time Strategy" game, which equates to this:

1. Build worker units who can harvest resources.
2. With those resources, build buildings.
3. With those buildings, build military units.
4. Send those units to blow up the opponent's units/buildings/workers.

Do that for 10-20 minutes until someone has exploded all of the other guy's stuff.

I actually posted this as a lame attempt to get on your good side. To be honest I had no real intention of either listening to the soundtrack or playing the game, and in retrospect I feel dirty in regards to the deception. The odds of me playing any RTS, much less SC2, are about the same as you paying for a video of TDarcos cooking crepes.

For what it's worth, the soundtrack is very epic. It doesn't make me want to command pretend armies around or anything, but it's certainly majestic.

Darn, I was going to go to the store tomorrow (well, actually today, it's quarter of four in the morning) and pick up the stuff, I could have used the money, but since you suspect he's not going to pay for it I probably won't.

Or on second thought, I'll require a 10% deposit on whatever Ben says he'll pay for it, first. My Paypal address is paul@paul-robinson.us, or if you don't want to deal with Paypal, just do a whois lookup on the domain "paul-robinson.us" and you'll get my street address, and you can mail me a money order. Once I get either a note that I've been sent a payment or the M.O., either I'll start on the video or if it's too small, I'll issue a refund (minus 50c if it's by mail). But I'm fairly greedy, so it would have to be very tiny before I'd totally reject it.

Look crepes are easy. You need eggs and milk which obviously you have in plentiful quantities. Then you need some butter, a little flour, and a tablespoon of sugar.

Surely you can scrounge that up.

Here's a tip: The first step is NOT to blast PAM all over a dirty frying pan halfway covering a blistering open flame causing the entire house to be filled with acrid burnt oil smoke.

I don't know where you got that idea. I had one dozen eggs perhaps a month or more ago. I ate all of them. I have no eggs. I had 1/2 gallon of milk perhaps a month ago. I have no milk. I have some margarine, about 1/2 pound. I have no flour other than pancake flour. I have no sugar at all, I haven't had any here in the year and a half I've lived here.

No, I'd have to go buy all of it. I have no interest in crepes. I made an omelet video because at the time I had eggs and milk and decided to film myself making one. If someone wants me to make crepes, they'd have to pay me to do it.

The "dirty frying pan" is the only frying pan I have.
