Any source code control system is better than no source code control system.
CVS is very "1995 called and wants its SCCS back." SVN is CVS with some of the worst misfeatures filed off.
Git is what all the cool kids use these days. Despite using Mercurial for a while when I was working on OpenSolaris, I never got my head around it. My cow-orker Martin wants to use bzr and I don't know why.
