My visit to Joint Base Andrews

Post by Tdarcos »

One weekend a year, Joint Base Andrews in Camp Springs, Maryland holds an open house where the public can come by and see all sorts of things, exhibits, military equipment, amusement park rides for the kids, and various kinds of food, only priced about double the regular price. Admission is free and they provide shuttle service from Branch Ave. Metrorail station which has lots of parking and it's free, so people no longer have to try to find parking on the base.

I almost forgot and called it Andrews Air Force Base but since the realignment of the military it's no longer just an Air Force installation.

Friday, the show is reserved for personnel with DOD id, which means current, former, retired and surviving spouses of DOD personnel. Saturday and Sunday the place is open to the public. I went out there on Sunday, May 20. Shuttles only run from the rail station until 1pm, so you have to get there early.

I took a considerable amount of video and probably over 200 pictures. As soon as I can get a gallery system set up I think I'll put them up on my site.

In the mean time I'll include one here from the side of a guard shack (reduced in size so it's not a huge image, with a close up of the warning sign), to show that, if this wasn't open to the public, you'd better be damn sure that you're in the right place:
